Product Description

Beautiful leaves worked with 2-stitch twists travel the full length of both sleeves on this top-down sweater. The front bodice is adorned simply with a few staggered rows of delicate eyelet motifs.

The slightly cropped shape (which can easily be knit longer) ends with neat ribbing, which is also used for the cuffs and neckband.

This seamless knit is worked entirely in the round, starting at the neckline. Increases are made along the raglan "seams" at regular intervals while the front lace and sleeve leaf designs are being worked. At the underarms, the body is worked down to the hem in easy Stockinette stitch, then ribbing.

Sleeves are knit in the round to the cuffs, finishing with a slightly gathered, ribbed cuff.

The lace stitch and leaf design are both charted and written.

Aubrey Sweater #308 by SweaterBabe.com

Garment Overview

The Aubrey Sweater is a top-down, seamless knit sweater designed for intermediate knitters. This piece features a slightly cropped silhouette that can be customized to a longer length based on individual preference. The sweater is worked entirely in the round, beginning at the neckline and progressing downward, eliminating the need for seaming and creating a polished, professional finish.

Design Features and Stitch Work

Sleeve Details: Beautiful leaf motifs travel the complete length of both sleeves, created using 2-stitch twists. These textured leaves add visual interest and dimension to the upper body while maintaining the intermediate skill level of the pattern.

Front Bodice: The front bodice is kept intentionally simple with a few staggered rows of delicate eyelet motifs. These small lace elements provide subtle elegance without overwhelming the design, allowing the sleeve details to remain the focal point.

Body Construction: The main body transitions from the detailed raglan increases into straightforward Stockinette stitch at the underarms, making this section quick and meditative to knit. This construction method allows for consistent shaping while the more intricate stitch patterns are concentrated in the upper portions.

Finishing Elements

  • Neat ribbing at the hem creates a polished, fitted edge
  • Wide ribbed neckband provides structure and comfort at the neck opening
  • Ribbed cuffs on the sleeves finish with a slightly gathered effect for a refined look

Knitting Techniques

This pattern employs several key knitting techniques suitable for intermediate crafters:

  • Top-down construction: Starting at the neckline allows for easy fitting adjustments and the ability to try on the sweater as you progress
  • Raglan shaping: Regular increases along the raglan "seams" create the classic sweater silhouette with smooth, proportional armholes
  • Seamless in-the-round knitting: Working entirely in the round eliminates seaming and creates a seamless garment with superior comfort
  • 2-stitch twists: Used to create the leaf pattern on the sleeves, adding texture and visual appeal
  • Eyelet motifs: Small lace elements on the front bodice created through yarn overs and decreases
  • Stockinette stitch: The primary stitch used for the body, creating a smooth, classic fabric
  • Ribbing: Applied at the neckband, cuffs, and hem for elasticity and a finished appearance

Materials and Yarn Requirements

The Aubrey Sweater is designed to be knit with 3-ply yarn, a lightweight to medium-weight yarn that works beautifully for this design. The 3-ply weight provides enough structure for the leaf and eyelet stitch patterns to show clearly while remaining drapable and comfortable for a fitted sweater. Standard knitting needles appropriate for the chosen yarn weight are required, along with a circular needle for working in the round.

Customization Options

The pattern notes that the slightly cropped length can easily be adjusted by knitting additional rounds before binding off at the hem, allowing knitters to customize the finished length to their preference and body measurements.
