What Is Being Made

Union is a rectangular, symmetrical shawl or scarf knitted end to end, creating a vibrant geometric accessory piece suitable for both dress-up and casual wear. The design features a series of colorful patterns arranged in blocks, resulting in a striking visual impact that showcases color work and textured techniques throughout the finished piece.

Knitting Techniques Used

This project employs several advanced knitting techniques to achieve its distinctive appearance. Total yardage needed is approximately 685 yards across four contrasting colors (Color A ~300 yards, Color B ~385 yards). The sample pictured uses The Plucky Knitter Primo Fingering, which is composed of 75% Super-Wash Merino, 20% Cashmere, and 5% Nylon. Alternative yarn suggestions from The Plucky Knitter include Solo Fingering, Feet, or Snug Fingering.
• DK Weight Version (Scarf): Requires US size 7 needles in 24" or 32" length. Total yardage needed is approximately 350 yards across four contrasting colors (Color A ~150 yards, Color B ~200 yards). Recommended DK weight yarns include The Plucky Knitter Beauregard DK, Solo DK, Terra DK, or Crew Fingering.

Difficulty Level

Union is rated as an intermediate knitting project. While the mosaic slipped stitch technique is more accessible than traditional stranded colorwork, the pattern requires solid foundational knitting skills and the ability to follow a multi-row, multi-color pattern repeat.
