What is Being Made

The Super-Boxy Sweater is an oversized chunky knit sweater designed for a relaxed, contemporary fit. This garment features a versatile design that can be worn on or off the shoulder, making it adaptable to different styling preferences. The sweater is available in two sizes: S/M (accommodating chest measurements up to approximately 39 inches or 98 centimeters) and L (approximately 46 inches or 112 centimeters chest). The design emphasizes comfort and ease, with the boxy silhouette providing ample room for layering or a deliberately loose aesthetic.

Knitting Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project employs fundamental techniques suitable for knitters with some experience. The construction utilizes circular knitting needles to work the sweater in the round, which is a common method for creating seamless garments or sections. The pattern incorporates both increases and decreases to shape the garment, allowing for shaping at key areas while maintaining the overall boxy proportions. Stitch markers are used throughout to help track pattern repeats and construction sections, and a tapestry needle is required for the finishing process of sewing in yarn ends.

Stitches Used

The Super-Boxy Sweater pattern employs essential knitting stitches that form the foundation of the design:

  • Knit (K) – the basic stitch that creates the primary fabric texture
  • Purl (P) – used in combination with knit stitches to create varied stitch patterns or textural elements
  • Cast On (CO) – the foundation technique for creating the initial stitches on the needle
  • Knit Two Together (k2tog) – a decrease stitch that reduces stitch count by combining two stitches into one
  • Knit One Front and Back (k1fb) – an increase stitch that creates two stitches from a single stitch by working through both the front and back loops
  • Make One (m1) – an additional increase technique for adding stitches within the fabric
  • Slip Marker (SM) – a technique for moving stitch markers from the left needle to the right needle to maintain pattern tracking

Materials and Gauge

The Super-Boxy Sweater is crafted using Paintbox Wool Mix Super Chunky yarn, a washable wool blend in a super chunky weight category. Yarn requirements vary by size: the S/M size requires 900 grams, while the L size requires 1500 grams. Knitters can choose from any available color option in this yarn line. The pattern calls for two sets of circular knitting needles: 9mm needles and 10mm needles, both at least 80 centimeters in length to accommodate the sweater's width. The recommended gauge is 9 stitches and 12 rows to 10 centimeters, which is essential for achieving the correct finished measurements. Additional notions include stitch markers for tracking sections throughout the pattern and a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends during finishing.

Difficulty Level

This project is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work with larger needles and bulkier yarn. The use of circular needles and the combination of increase and decrease techniques provide a moderate challenge while remaining accessible to experienced beginners.

Je suis très satisfaite de ce service.

Le modèle correspondait tout à fait à mes recherches. On m'avait fait cadeau de la laine et j'avais trouvé un modèle chez LoveCrafts qui était tout à fait adapté.

Bad Pattern

Frustratingly flawed pattern. Pattern claims to be written for multiple sizes, but it is not. The gauge is accurate but the 64 st cast on would barely fit a toddler and certainly not a small woman. I opted to seek another pattern and will not likely trust Love Crafts patterns in the future.
