Product Description

These socks were inspired by the stories of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Laura wrote about her childhood, growing up on the prairies of Kansas. As I was knitting these socks, the stitch pattern reminded me of the wheat fields that Pa Ingalls farmed.

I would like to imagine that this is the kind of pattern that Ma would have knitted for her family.

I set out with the intention of creating a pattern that was relaxing to knit whilst still being engaging, exciting and addictive !

The pattern includes 4 video tutorials to demonstrate the texture pattern, heel turn, gusset pick up and Kitchener stitch.

It is perfect for all levels of knitter and comes in 3 sizes to accommodate all your family members.

AUGUST 2021 THIS PATTERN WAS GIVEN A REFRESH AND A NEW PDF UPLOADED.

Prairie Socks by Kay Jones

What is Being Made

The Prairie Socks are a pair of knitted socks designed by independent designer Kay Jones. Inspired by the stories of Laura Ingalls Wilder and her childhood on the Kansas prairies, these socks feature a stitch pattern reminiscent of wheat fields. The design captures the essence of historical prairie life while creating a modern, wearable garment that is both relaxing and engaging to knit.

Craft and Techniques

This is a knitting project suitable for intermediate level knitters. The pattern is designed to be relaxing to knit while remaining engaging and addictive, making it accessible to knitters with some experience. The stitch pattern creates a visual texture that evokes the appearance of prairie wheat fields, adding both aesthetic interest and a connection to the historical inspiration behind the design.

Stitches Used

The Prairie Socks feature a distinctive stitch pattern that creates the wheat field effect central to the design's inspiration. While specific stitch names are not detailed in the available pattern information, the stitch work is engineered to be meditative and rhythmic, making it suitable for knitters seeking an engaging but not overly complex project.
