Lelant Top Crochet Pattern Summary
What is Being Made
The Lelant Top is an airy shrug designed for a loose fit, worked as a single continuous piece combining the back and front sections. This lightweight garment features textural interest through an eyelet pattern, making it an ideal layering piece or standalone top for warm weather wear. The design is available in six sizes ranging from XS to XXL, with horizontal measurements from 25cm (10 inches) for XS/S up to 36cm (14 inches) for XL/XXL, and lengths spanning from 100cm (39 inches) to 140cm (55 inches) depending on size.
Techniques and Construction Method
This crochet shrug is constructed using a one-piece method, where the crocheter works both the back and front sections continuously without seaming. The eyelet pattern creates an open, textural fabric that remains breathable and cool, making it perfect for layering or wearing in warmer seasons. The pattern is specifically designed to be quick and easy to execute, making it an excellent beginner-friendly project that teaches fundamental crochet skills while producing a wearable garment.
Stitches Used
The Lelant Top pattern utilizes essential crochet stitches written in US crochet terminology:
- Chain stitch (ch/chs) – the foundation stitch used to create the base of the fabric and decorative elements
- Chain space (ch sp) – the open spaces created between stitches that form the eyelet pattern
- Double crochet (dc) – the primary structural stitch that builds the body of the shrug
- Skip stitch (sk st) – used to create shaping and pattern variations
- Slip stitch (sl st) – employed for joining rounds and finishing edges
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Lelant Top requires a 4mm crochet hook and yarn in DK/Aran weight. Yardage requirements vary by size: XS and S sizes need 600 yards, M and L sizes require 700 yards, and XL and XXL sizes need 800 yards. The designer used a blend of Olann Gosh 4ply merino yarn doubled with 4ply silk yarn to achieve the ideal DK/Aran weight, creating a luxurious fiber blend that combines the breathability of merino with the smooth drape of silk. The recommended gauge is 3 repeats over 7 rows measuring 10cm or 4 inches, which helps ensure proper fit across all size options.
