Product Details

Hotyka, or Makkoshotyka (acorned Hotyka) is a small village in the wine region of Tokaj-Hegyalja on the shore of the Hotyka brook. The settlement was established in the second half of the 12th century. It was already a wine-growing region at the time of the Tartar invasion (1241-42), because it was recorded that the inhabitants sought refuge from the Tartars in the wine cellars. In 1262 King Stephen V donated the village to a soldier named Hugka, so maybe the name of the village and the stream comes from his name.

Hotyka is a beautiful shawl that’s enjoyable to knit. The look is very modern and light. The shawl evokes the rhythm of the vineyards and the streams that flow through the village. Starting from one tip and working your way through to the opposite side, you alternate blocks of garter stitch and the miniature leaf stitch pattern. The miniature leaf is an easy lace stitch. A super-simple repeat is easy and quick to memorize, even for beginners.
