Granny's Christmas Tree Skirt by Sandra Paul
What is Being Made
Granny's Christmas Tree Skirt is a decorative crochet project designed to conceal the base stand and wires of a Christmas tree. This round skirt-style accessory combines functional design with festive appeal, featuring colorful striped sections and decorative edging details. The finished piece fastens securely with button loops, making it both practical and visually attractive for holiday décor.
Craft and Techniques
This is a crochet project created by independent designer Sandra Paul and published through Cherry Heart. The pattern employs a combination of construction methods: the main body is worked in rows back and forth to create the striped sections, while the edging is worked in the round to add decorative detail and structural definition. The contrast between flat rows and circular edging creates visual interest and ensures the skirt sits properly around the tree base.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes simple crochet stitches for the main body, making the core construction accessible to intermediate crocheters. However, the edging incorporates more advanced intermediate stitches that add decorative complexity. The combination of basic and intermediate techniques allows crafters to build skills while completing a functional garment. Written directions and diagram guidance support stitch execution throughout the project.
