Product Description

Hi all! The Flopsy and Mopsy Bunnies are my free Easter pattern offering (although these cuties are perfect for any day)! They are inspired by an earlier set of pom-pom bunnies I made, however, I wanted to try and recreate that fluffy texture in crochet. Although the pattern itself is very simple, this fuzzy yarn can be a little intimidating to crochet with at first. Just take it slow and with a little practice, it's not too hard to pick up! I hope you all enjoy making Flopsy and Mopsy, and as always I would love to see your projects so #lovenstitchdesigns on Instagram or feel free to shoot me an email or review if you have any questions or feedback! Thank you!!

P.S. This pattern uses US terminology.

Flopsy and Mopsy Crochet Toy Pattern

Project Overview

Flopsy and Mopsy is a downloadable crochet pattern designed by Rupinder Kaur for creating a pair of adorable stuffed bunnies. These charming toys are approximately 5 inches long (12.7 cm) and are suitable for intermediate-level crocheters. The pattern is available as a free downloadable PDF from Love + Stitch Co.

What Is Being Made

This pattern provides instructions for crocheting two small bunny toys with a soft, plush appearance. The bunnies feature distinct color blocking with white and peach yarn, safety eyes for facial features, and are stuffed with fiberfill to create three-dimensional toys. These toys are ideal for gifts, nursery decoration, or as practice projects for intermediate crocheters.

Yarn and Materials

The pattern recommends using Lion Brand Baby Soft Boucle yarn in two colors: white and peach, with one 100g/3.5 oz skein of each color required. For an alternative texture, Bernat Baby Velvet yarn can be substituted for a velvety finish. The designer specifically recommends working with fuzzy yarn to achieve the characteristic fluffy pom-pom-like texture that makes these bunnies visually appealing. A 5.5mm (US size I) crochet hook is used for this project.

Additional Materials and Notions

  • 6mm safety eyes for facial features
  • Fiberfill stuffing for creating dimension and structure
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and assembling pieces
  • Stitch marker for tracking rounds

Crochet Techniques and Stitches

This intermediate-level pattern uses fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for toy construction. The primary stitch used is single crochet (sc), which creates a tight, dense fabric ideal for amigurumi-style toys that require structure and durability. The pattern also employs the magic ring (MR) technique, a popular method for beginning projects in the round without leaving a hole in the center—particularly useful for creating seamless toy pieces.

The pattern uses US crochet terminology throughout. The worsted-weight yarn combined with the 5.5mm hook creates a fabric with good stitch definition and stability, essential for toys that will be handled and potentially given to children. The tight gauge achieved through single crochet stitches helps prevent fiberfill stuffing from showing through the finished fabric.

Pattern Considerations

The designer notes that toy size may vary depending on the specific hook size and yarn weight used, allowing for some flexibility in customization. The use of fuzzy or textured yarn is highly recommended to achieve the intended aesthetic of soft, fluffy bunnies rather than a smooth crochet fabric.
