Product Description
The inspiration for this pattern came from my Mum and Dad. My Dad absolutely loved to go fishing and my Mum knitted him big thick jumpers to keep him warm.
I have a vivid memory of Mum knitting those jumpers, using the same stitch pattern that I've used for the blanket. It produces such a warm and cosy fabric, perfect for keeping out the chilly English weather.
This is a simple and highly addictive thing to knit, and is incredibly meditative too.
The pattern includes 5 video tutorials, covering all the techniques you will need to complete the blanket.
It's a perfect use for all those bits and bobs of precious yarn, and is designed to use up every last scrap of your leftovers. You hold the yarn double throughout the blanket, which gives you a beautiful watercolour effect. The I-cord border finishes it off perfectly.
Please note - this is NOT brioche stitch, but does have a similar look.
I loved every single stitch of this blanket, and really hope you do too !

The blanket is engineered to allow crafters to use up every last scrap of precious yarn, making it an economical choice for stash busting. The finished blanket produces a warm and cosy fabric ideal for the chilly English weather, and serves as both a functional home accessory and a meaningful creative project.
Design Inspiration and Purpose
The pattern draws inspiration from Kay Jones's personal family memories, particularly her father's love of fishing and her mother's knitting expertise. The designer's mother created similar jumpers using the same stitch pattern featured in this blanket design. The project holds sentimental value as a way to honour family traditions and create a cherished handmade item. Beyond its emotional significance, the blanket is designed as a simple yet engaging project that provides a meditative knitting experience, making it suitable for crafters who enjoy the rhythmic, calming aspects of the craft.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
This blanket is constructed using a consistent stitch pattern throughout, creating a uniform and meditative knitting rhythm. The pattern employs straightforward knitting techniques appropriate for beginner-level crafters, ensuring accessibility while still producing a professional-quality finished piece. The stitch pattern used is the same traditional pattern that inspired the design, connecting the modern blanket to its historical family roots. The construction method allows for flexible yarn usage, enabling knitters to incorporate various yarn weights and colours from their stash without compromising the final result.
Yarn and Materials
The Bits and Bobs blanket is designed to work with 4-ply yarn weight, providing a versatile base for various yarn types and colours. The pattern is specifically engineered to accommodate leftover yarns and precious scraps, making it an ideal project for stash busting and sustainable crafting practices. Knitters can combine different yarn colours and textures from their collection while maintaining the blanket's structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. The 4-ply weight creates a fabric with excellent drape and warmth without excessive bulk, perfect for a cosy throw blanket.
Skill Level
Designed as a beginner-friendly project, Bits and Bobs requires only fundamental knitting knowledge and skills. The straightforward stitch pattern and simple construction make it accessible to newer knitters while remaining engaging and rewarding for experienced crafters seeking a meditative, low-stress project.
