Product Description

This twist is part decorative scarf, part necklace. It uses only one hank of the exquisite Debbie Bliss Paloma, a baby alpaca and merino wool mix. Super soft, the twist grows quickly and can be knitted up in a night. There are so many lovely colours in this yarn it is hard to choose which one to knit up, but I have chosen Cyclamen as it complements so many other colours. You’ll love knitting this twist, and love wearing it even more! Happy knitting!

Angela Twist by Jo Allport

What Is Being Made

The Angela Twist is a hybrid accessory that functions as both a decorative scarf and a wearable necklace. This knitted design combines practical wearability with elegant styling, offering versatility for different occasions and outfit combinations. The finished piece creates a twisted, rope-like texture that drapes beautifully around the neck.

Yarn and Materials

This project uses one hank of Debbie Bliss Paloma, a luxurious blend of baby alpaca and merino wool. The yarn shown is in the shade Cyclamen 13, a rich color that coordinates with many other hues in a wardrobe. The Paloma yarn is noted for its exceptional softness, making the finished twist a pleasure to wear against the skin. You will also need two 10mm/US 15/UK 000 double pointed needles and one darning needle for weaving in ends.

Techniques and Construction

The Angela Twist is constructed using the i-cord knitting technique, a method that creates a small, tubular cord. The process begins with casting on stitches and working in a continuous spiral. During knitting, stitches are pushed to the opposite end of the double pointed needle and the needle is passed to the left hand, with yarn pulled tightly across the back. This creates the characteristic smooth, rounded cord structure. Once the i-cord is complete, it is physically twisted to create additional texture and visual interest, then the ends are sewn together to form a continuous loop suitable for wearing as a necklace or scarf.

Stitches Used

  • Cast on (7 stitches)

Difficulty and Project Speed

Rated as a beginner-level project, the Angela Twist is accessible to knitters new to the craft. Despite its simplicity, the design produces impressive results. The super chunky yarn weight and straightforward stitch pattern allow the piece to be completed quickly—the pattern notes it can be knitted up in a single evening, making it an ideal project for quick gratification.
