The Alkonost is, according to Russian and Byzantine legend, a good-luck paradise bird with the head of a beautiful woman who lives in the underworld with her counterpart the Sirin.

WARNING!  This pattern is not for the faint of heart. Please only purchase this pattern if you have experience with knitting bottom up shawls from charted instructions and are familiar with the short row technique.

You will need 711 - 766 yards Fingering yarn (100% Wool, 379 yds/100 gr)

Needles:  • US 10½ – 6.5 mm (for casting on)  • US 2½ – 3.0 mm, 150 cm 60” long (for the edging)  • US 2½ – 3.0 mm, 100 cm 40” long (for the short row section) Additionally: • crochet hook 3.5 mm (US E) – for binding off  • beads № 6, 1311 pieces in all – optional  • crochet hook 0.5 mm (US 22) – for adding beads, optional  • stitch markers: 16 in one color and 1 in a contrasting color (to mark the center stitch)
