Product Description

Although the Apricot leaf pattern is a traditional design that has been around for at least 250 years in some form or another, the border design is my own creation.

Materials required to knit this pattern in 1:12th scale:

Bedspread - size 22 needles (0.70 mm/US size 6/0), 1.5-2 20g balls of size 100 crochet cotton or good quality sewing thread. (Each square uses approx 5 metres yarn).

Cellular Blanket - size 16 (1.5 mm/US size 3/0) needles, 75-100 metres of 1-ply wool.

Instructions are given for changing the size of the blanket and bedspread to suit. Gauge is not important as dolls house beds vary in size.

TO ADAPT PATTERN FOR A FULL SIZE HUMAN VERSION:

The same pattern is used, for full details see notes on actual pattern.

This can be made for a single or double bed.

For example: a double bedspread of 1.2 metres by 7.38 metres would require 315 squares (giving a finished size of 2.4 metres by 2.1 metres i.e. 15 squares by 21 squares), plus edging to make the finished size

1/12th Scale Apricot Leaf Bedspread

What is Being Made

This is a miniature bedspread designed for 1/12th scale dollhouse settings, featuring the traditional apricot leaf motif that has been used in textile design for at least 250 years. The pattern creates an authentic decorative piece suitable for doll furniture and miniature room displays. This downloadable PDF provides complete instructions for crafting a scaled-down version of a classic leaf-patterned textile.

Craft and Techniques

This project is created using knitting as the primary craft method. The pattern employs advanced-level knitting techniques appropriate for experienced crafters. The construction utilizes fundamental knitting methods combined with decorative stitch work to achieve the intricate apricot leaf design at miniature scale.

Stitches Used

The pattern incorporates a variety of essential knitting stitches and techniques:

  • Knit stitch (k) - the fundamental stitch forming the base fabric
  • Purl stitch (p) - used to create texture and pattern variation
  • Yarn forward (yfd) - creates decorative openings in the fabric
  • Yarn round needle (yrn) - wraps yarn around the needle to form additional stitches
  • Knit two together (k2tog) - decreases stitches to shape the design
  • Purl two together (p2tog) - purl-based decrease method
  • Slip stitch (sl 1) - moves stitches between needles without working them
  • Pass slipped stitch over (psso) - completes decrease sequences
  • Increases (inc) - works twice into a single stitch to add stitches
  • Garter stitch (gst) - created by knitting every row for a textured, reversible fabric

Materials

This miniature project requires DK weight yarn, lace weight yarn, or thread depending on the desired scale and detail level. The delicate nature of 1/12th scale work necessitates fine materials to achieve proper proportions. Appropriate knitting needles sized to work with these fine yarns and threads are required to complete the project.

Additional Notes

The pattern is presented as a downloadable PDF document and is credited to Buttercup Miniatures (© 2010). The design draws from historical textile traditions, making it suitable for those seeking authentic miniature home furnishings or period-appropriate dollhouse accessories.
