How to dragonfly stitch

Give your crochet wings with this gorgeous dragonfly stitch tutorial by Hopeful Honey. This pattern uses US crochet terminology.

The dragonfly stitch is a crochet technique that incorporates simple crochet stitches in sequence to create a lovely dragonfly effect in your fabric. This easy step-by-step tutorial by Hopeful Honey will show you how to create this pretty design that’s just beautiful in shawls, blankets, homeware and accessories. How to crochet dragonfly stitch

Chain in multiples of 12 plus 17.

Row 1: Skip 3 chains, and in the 4th chain stitch a double crochet (DC).

Continue to DC until you’ve completed the first row.

Row 2: Chain 2, turn your work. DC in the next two stitches.

Row 2 repeat: *1 DC in each of the next 4 stitches. Ch 1, skip one stitch. 1 DC in each of the next 7 stitches. Ch 1, skip 1 stitch. 1 DC in each of the next 7 stitches.

Repeat row 2 sequence: *1 DC in next 4 stitches, Ch 1 then skipping next stitch. 1 DC in the next 7 stitches until you reach the end of row 1.

Row 3: Chain 2, turn work. 1 DC in next 2 stitches.

Row 3 repeat: **1 DC in the next stitch. Chain 3. Skip 3 stitches. Crochet 1 SC in chain 1 space. Chain 3. Skip 3 stitches. Crochet 1 DC in each of the next 4 stitches.

Repeat row 3 sequence **until you reach the end of row 3.

Row 4: Chain 2, turn work. 1 DC in the next 2 stitches.

Row 4 repeat: ***Ch 4, skip 1 stitch, Ch 3 space. SC in the SC. Chain 4. Skip Ch 3 space and 1 stitch. Crochet 1 DC in each of the next 3 stitches.

Repeat row 4 sequence*** until you reach the end of row 4.

Row 5: Ch 2, turn work. 1 DC in the next 2 stitches.

Repeat for row 5**** 4 DC in chain 4 space. 1 DC in single crochet. 4 DC in Chain 4 space.

Repeat row 5 sequence**** until the end of the row.

Optional to add new colour here. Chain 2, turn work. 1 DC in the next stitch. DC until the end of row.

Now repeat Rows 2-6 until you’ve reached the desired length.
