Product Description
I sometimes find that working on a wrap, throw or other large project can get a little boring, but not this one! This design is worked in rows of different stitch combinations to create various types of textures and lace. I love how the stitching plays with the color changes too. Then I added a border worked in rounds on the base and finally an edging is worked on the short ends - it’s one little twist after another to keep you interested and layer the beauty!
Designed in #2 Fine Weight Size: One size - approximately 68” wide x 22” tall

Winter Indulgence Wrap by Pattern Paradise
Project Overview
The Winter Indulgence Wrap is a beginner-friendly crochet shawl designed by Pattern Paradise. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a versatile wrap measuring 68 inches long by 22 inches wide, making it an ideal accessory for layering during cooler months. The adjustable sizing through stitch multiples allows crafters to customize the finished dimensions to their preferences.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a rectangular wrap suitable for draping over shoulders or wearing as a lightweight shawl. The finished piece combines decorative shell stitches with a structured border and edging, creating an elegant yet wearable garment. The wrap's generous length and moderate width make it practical for various styling options while maintaining visual interest through stitch pattern detail.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Winter Indulgence Wrap employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginners. The construction method involves working the main body in rows, followed by adding a border worked in rounds, and finishing with edging applied in rows to the two short ends only. This multi-directional approach builds skills while creating visual dimension. The pattern emphasizes careful attention to stitch counting and placement, particularly regarding how chains function within rows versus between stitches.
Stitches and Special Stitches
- Chain (ch): Foundation and spacing stitch used throughout the pattern
- Single Crochet (sc): Basic stitch used in construction
- Half Double Crochet (hdc): Medium-height stitch incorporated into the design
- Double Crochet (dc): Primary stitch used in the main fabric and shell construction
- Cluster (CL): Special stitch defined as dc2tog in the same stitch, creating texture and shaping
- Shell Stitch: Decorative special stitch constructed as [CL, ch2, CL] in the same stitch, forming the wrap's signature pattern element
- Slip Stitch (sl): Used for joining rounds and transitions
Materials and Gauge
The Winter Indulgence Wrap is worked using sport weight yarn (Fine Weight #2), with the pattern sample created in Red Heart It's A Wrap Rainbow yarn requiring 2 balls for completion. Crafters should use a size G/4.00 mm crochet hook to achieve the specified gauge of 8 shells by 11.5 rows measuring 5 inches square. The pattern recommends weaving in ends as you work to minimize finishing time, and notes that the beginning chain-1 does not count as a stitch while chains within rows do count toward stitch totals.
Pattern Notes
This beginner-level pattern includes helpful guidance for accurate construction. Stitch counts for each round are indicated in parentheses at the end of rounds. The wrap's construction sequence—rows for the body, rounds for the border, and rows for the final edging on short ends—requires careful attention to the finishing section instructions. The adjustable stitch multiples allow crafters to modify the wrap's dimensions while maintaining the design's proportions and visual appeal.
