Product Description
I have designed Wildberry Bear specifically for the recommended yarns listed below, these are super chunky faux fur yarns. These are super chunky yarns, a bit more than super chunky in my opinion. If you wish to use thinner yarns please adjust your needle size to at least 2 sizes smaller than recommended needle size on the ball band.
Wildberry Bear is quite a quick knit due to the nature of these yarns, less stitches and rows will create a lovely size bear. Wildberry Bear measures 20 inches/51cms from head to toe or 14 inches/36cms sitting.
His legs, feet and body are knitted flat, as one piece, seamed along the back and inside legs. Then seamed along the hip to give him nice floppy legs. His head, ears and arms are knitted separately and stitched in place. I have included a step by step making up guide, with lots of photos, to help you assemble him. Because of the shaping he’s very easy to stuff and assemble.
Wildberry Bear: Knitted Toy Design by Pat Alinejad
What is Being Made
The Wildberry Bear is a knitted stuffed toy bear designed by Pat Alinejad. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a soft, cuddly bear suitable for children and collectors. The finished toy features a charming design enhanced with safety eyes and an optional toy safety nose, making it a complete plush companion.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
This knitting pattern employs fundamental toy-making techniques appropriate for intermediate knitters. The bear is constructed using straightforward knitting methods with careful attention to shaping and assembly. The design utilizes straight knitting needles in two different sizes to accommodate the varying yarn weights used throughout the project. The pattern includes detailed making-up instructions that guide knitters through the assembly process, ensuring proper stuffing and finishing of the toy.
Stitches and Stitch Work
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided materials, the pattern is designed for intermediate-level knitters, suggesting the use of basic knitting stitches combined with shaping techniques such as increases and decreases. These fundamental stitches are worked across the project to create the bear's body, head, limbs, and other components that are subsequently sewn together during the making-up phase.
Yarn and Materials
- Yarn A (Main Body): 250 grams/165 metres of super chunky weight yarn, specifically Sirdar Alpine yarn or James C Brett Chinchilla Yarn, worked on 6mm straight knitting needles
- Yarn B (Textural Details): 50 grams/82 metres of super chunky yarn requiring 10mm needles according to ball band recommendations
- Yarn C (Nose): 10 grams/10 metres of Aran/Worsted weight yarn for the nose detail, worked on 3.5mm straight knitting needles
- Finishing Notions: 18mm toy safety eyes, 23cm toy safety nose (optional), toy stuffing, and plain matching yarn for sewing seams
Designer Notes on Yarn Selection
Designer Pat Alinejad specifically recommends the listed super chunky yarns, noting they are slightly thicker than standard super chunky weight. For knitters wishing to substitute with thinner yarns, the designer advises reducing needle size by at least two sizes smaller than the ball band recommendation to maintain proper gauge and finished toy proportions.
