Weave Block Blanket by Stitched Up By Emma

Project Overview

The Weave Block Blanket is a beginner-friendly crochet blanket design created by Stitched Up By Emma. This downloadable PDF pattern produces a finished blanket measuring approximately 25 inches by 33 inches, making it an ideal size for a cozy throw or small lap blanket. The design incorporates filet crochet techniques to create an attractive woven block pattern.

What Is Being Made

This pattern creates a rectangular crochet blanket featuring a decorative weave block design. The finished piece is suitable as a throw blanket, decorative home accessory, or gift project. The blanket's compact finished dimensions of 25 inches by 33 inches make it perfect for smaller spaces or as a coordinating accent piece.

Crochet Techniques Used

Filet Crochet is the primary technique featured in this pattern. Filet crochet creates an open, lacy fabric by alternating filled and empty spaces, producing a geometric grid-like appearance. This technique allows crafters to follow either a written pattern or a visual chart to create the weave block design. Each block on the provided chart represents one individual stitch, with white blocks indicating double crochet stitches that form the filled portions of the pattern.

Stitches Used

  • Double Crochet (DC) – The primary stitch used throughout the blanket, forming the main structure and filled blocks of the filet pattern
  • Half Double Crochet (HDC) – Used as a supporting stitch within the pattern
  • Single Crochet (SC) – Employed for shaping and finishing elements
  • Chain (CH) – Used to create the foundation and open spaces within the filet grid
  • Slip Stitch (SLST) – Used for joining rounds and finishing edges
  • Skip (SK) – Technique used to create the open spaces characteristic of filet crochet

Materials and Tools

Yarn: The pattern calls for Paintbox Simply Aran yarn in two colors. Colour A requires 300 grams in Sage, while Colour B requires 100 grams in White. Aran weight yarn is a medium-weight option that works well for blankets, providing good drape and structure. The pattern is also compatible with DK and Worsted weight yarns, allowing crafters flexibility in yarn selection while maintaining similar finished dimensions.

Tools and Notions: A 5mm crochet hook is required for this project. Additional supplies include a tapestry needle for weaving in yarn ends, scissors for cutting yarn, and optional stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and round beginnings.

Gauge Information

The pattern specifies a gauge of 13 double crochet stitches by 8 rows measuring 4 inches by 4 inches. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for obtaining the finished blanket dimensions of 25 inches by 33 inches. Crafters should work a gauge swatch before beginning the full project to ensure their tension matches the pattern requirements.

Pattern Format and Difficulty

Classified as a beginner-level project, the Weave Block Blanket is accessible to newer crocheters while remaining engaging for experienced makers. The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF and offers dual instruction methods: crafters can follow either written pattern instructions or work from the included visual chart. This flexibility accommodates different learning preferences and allows crafters to choose their preferred method of pattern reading.
