Wally's Winte Hat is knitted in double knitting yarn and knits up quite quickly. The pattern is easy for new knitters or knitters who don't feel confident with using another colour in your work, I'm sure the finished article will help you gain more confidence. This is made for a small childs head but depends on your tension and the size of the childs head. One thing for sure it will certainly keep their head cosy and warm.
You can choose which type of pom pom you would like to finish the hat off with. I have chosen pictures of a straggley pom pom , (which sometimes reminds me of little boys), or try making a tassel. Both options are in the instructions.
