Tiverton Pullover by Laura Chau
Garment Overview
The Tiverton is a classic knit pullover sweater designed by Laura Chau and published through Cosmic Pluto. This versatile garment features a casual straight fit with a deep scoop neckline, making it ideal for layering over t-shirts or wearing as a standalone piece with jeans or skirts. The pullover is constructed in four separate pieces that are seamed together, with set-in sleeves for a refined silhouette. The design is meant to be worn with zero or positive ease, allowing for a comfortable, close-fitting wear.

- Long twisted rib cuffs at the wrists add a refined detail and help the sweater stay in place
- Ribbed collar picked up and knit in the round for a polished finish
- Set-in sleeves provide a tailored, classic construction
- Casual straight fit with multiple size options ranging from 28 inches to 56 inches finished bust measurement
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The Tiverton is an advanced-level knitting project that incorporates several intermediate to advanced techniques. The primary stitch work includes cable stitches for the mirrored cable panels, which require careful stitch manipulation and pattern reading. The construction method involves flat knitting for the four main pieces (front, back, and two sleeves), followed by seaming to join the pieces together. The ribbed details—including the cuffs and collar—utilize knit and purl ribbing for elasticity and structure. The collar is picked up and knit in the round, a technique that requires casting on stitches along the neckline edge and working circularly to create a seamless finish.
Yarn and Materials
The Tiverton is designed to be knit with O-Wool Legacy DK, a premium yarn composed of 100% certified organic merino wool. This DK-weight yarn provides excellent stitch definition while maintaining a smooth yet wooly tactile quality. Each skein contains 130 yards (119 meters) and weighs 1.75 ounces (50 grams). The yarn choice contributes to the sweater's squishy, comfortable feel and ensures that cable stitches and ribbed details are clearly visible. The sample shown in the pattern was knit in the colorway Overcast.
Sizing and Fit
The Tiverton is available in 13 different sizes, with finished bust measurements ranging from 28 inches (70 cm) to 56 inches (142 cm). The pattern recommends measuring a sweater that fits well and selecting the size closest to that measurement, rather than relying on standard sizing. The sample garment pictured measures 36 inches (91 cm) at the bust and is knit with zero ease, demonstrating how the sweater should fit when constructed to the intended specifications.
Pattern Credits
