Product Description
Tiny Bunny Baby Blanket is a colorful project that knitters will enjoy and that will keep your little ones warm. It’s made using 3 main colors and several contrasting colors, to create stripes of tiny bunny heads. It can be made using any yarn you want, even leftover yarns, as long as they all have the same gauge! The finished blanket will be as colorful as you want it to be, with a cute slip-stitch pattern that is easy to create, and will be warm and cozy without being too stretchy as the slip-stitch pattern will keep its shape without stretching.
Blanket can be made as big or small as desired. You can cast on any number of stitches and you can work as many rows as you want. Indicated yardage and colorways are based on the pictured blanket and can vary according to your preferences.
Note that the slip stitch pattern can make it hard to maintain a consistent tension over the whole blanket. Make sure to make a generous swatch and to use a tension that is comfortable for you

Project Overview
The Tiny Bunny Baby Blanket is a knitted baby blanket project designed by Gabrielle Vézina that combines functionality with playful visual appeal. This intermediate-level knitting pattern creates a finished blanket measuring 38 inches (97 cm) long by 27 inches (69 cm) wide, making it an ideal size for keeping infants and toddlers warm and cozy.
Design and Aesthetic
This blanket features a charming design composed of stripes of tiny bunny heads created through a repeating pattern structure. The design utilizes 3 main colors combined with several contrasting colors to achieve a vibrant, multi-colored finished piece. The colorful striping pattern makes this blanket visually engaging while maintaining a cohesive, intentional design aesthetic.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The Tiny Bunny Baby Blanket is constructed using a slip-stitch pattern as its primary stitch technique. The slip-stitch method is an accessible approach that creates the distinctive bunny head motifs throughout the blanket. This stitch pattern is described as easy to execute, making it suitable for knitters at the intermediate skill level who may be developing their stitch repertoire.
The slip-stitch construction offers practical benefits beyond aesthetics. The pattern structure naturally resists stretching, allowing the finished blanket to maintain its intended shape and dimensions without distortion during use or washing. This characteristic ensures the blanket remains warm and cozy while providing structural integrity.
Yarn Requirements and Flexibility
While the pattern was designed with DK weight yarn as the recommended yarn weight, it is adaptable to multiple yarn weights. The pattern accommodates:
- Cobweb weight
- 3-ply yarn
- 4-ply yarn
- Sport weight
- DK weight
- 6-ply yarn
- Worsted weight
- Heavy worsted weight
- Aran weight
For the recommended DK weight yarn, the total yardage requirement is 690 yards total, composed of 230 yards (210 meters) each of the 3 main colors, plus an additional 360 yards (329 meters) of contrasting colors. The pattern encourages using leftover or scrap yarns, provided all yarns maintain the same gauge to ensure consistent fabric quality and appearance.
Pattern Adaptability
The Tiny Bunny Baby Blanket pattern was originally designed for 3 main colors paired with an unlimited number of contrasting colors, offering knitters significant creative flexibility. This structure allows crafters to customize their blanket based on available yarn stash, preferred color combinations, or specific aesthetic preferences while maintaining the integrity of the bunny head stripe design.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is classified as intermediate difficulty, indicating it is appropriate for knitters who have mastered basic knitting fundamentals and are ready to work with stitch patterns and color work. The slip-stitch technique, while described as easy to create, combined with the multi-color construction, provides an engaging project for developing knitters.
