Product Description
Welcome to your new favorite baby blanket pattern!
The Stand Up Oregon Blanket can be made with either DK or Worsted yarn and comes with instructions for each. It also comes with instructions to make either a standard crib blanket or a smaller huggable "baby" blanket
This pattern is named “The Stand Up Oregon Blanket” because I wrote this pattern to support the foster children in Portland, OR. ALL the proceeds from the sale of this pattern (on all platforms) will go directly to supporting a ministry called The Boxes of Love. This ministry is local to Portland, OR and they provide boxes (plastic totes) full of brand new clothing, shoes, toys, etc. to kids who are entering into the foster care system. This ministry gives dignity back to these foster children and to the foster parents in a practical way. I will be making and donating physical blankets as well to The Boxes of Love Project. Thank you for coming alongside me in this partnership and helping foster kids know that they are loved!
The Stand Up Oregon Baby Blanket
Project Overview
The Stand Up Oregon Baby Blanket is a beginner-friendly crochet blanket designed by Mickyla Jackson. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a cozy baby blanket suitable for gifting or personal use. All proceeds from the sale of this pattern support Boxes of Love, a Portland, Oregon ministry dedicated to serving foster children in the Portland metropolitan area.
What Is Being Made
This project produces a finished baby blanket worked entirely in crochet. The blanket is designed as an accessible project for beginners, making it an ideal choice for crafters new to crochet or those looking for a straightforward, rewarding make.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Stand Up Oregon Baby Blanket utilizes fundamental crochet techniques and stitches that build confidence in beginner crafters:
- Single Crochet (SC): A basic stitch that creates a tight, dense fabric
- Double Crochet (DC): A taller stitch that works up quickly and creates a more open fabric
- Half Double Crochet (HDC): A medium-height stitch positioned between single and double crochet
- Block Stitch (BS): A special stitch technique featured in this pattern that creates texture through a two-row repeat. Block Stitch combines chain spaces with single crochet stitches, alternating between filled and open spaces to produce visual interest
- Slip Stitch (Sl St): Used for joining rounds and securing stitches
Materials and Yarn Requirements
The Stand Up Oregon Baby Blanket offers flexibility in yarn weight selection, allowing crafters to choose based on preference and availability:
- DK Weight Option: Approximately 550 yards of DK weight yarn with a 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Worsted Weight Option: Approximately 700 yards of worsted weight yarn with a 5.5 mm crochet hook
Additional materials needed include scissors and a yarn needle for weaving in ends after finishing.
Skill Level
Rated as a beginner project, the Stand Up Oregon Baby Blanket is accessible to crocheters of all experience levels. The pattern focuses on fundamental stitches and straightforward techniques, making it an excellent choice for those building their crochet foundation or seeking a quick, satisfying project.
