You could use very heavy alpaca (like I did) or you could use very light lace weight. Just use the needle size that the yarn you've chosen requests on the ball band.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI'm in the process of knitting one out of sock-weight yarn. I'd say you'd need about 400 meters of it, and around 300 meters of worsted weight.
