Product Description
This is a triangle shawl that is worked sideways. The shawl features two textures: a delicate lace pattern that grows first with increases and is later worked as a straight panel and a cable pattern that is addictive to knit and grows with increases while shaping the shawl in the triangle. The both patterns are worked simultaneuously with intarsia technique and the shawl is finished with an edging with nupps. Video tutorial links on intarsia and nupps are provided in the pattern.

What is Being Made
The Gardener Shawl is a triangular knitted shawl worked sideways, creating a finished wingspan of 70 inches (175 cm) and depth of 30 inches (75 cm). This advanced-level design combines two distinct textural patterns worked simultaneously to create visual interest and dynamic shaping throughout the garment.
Design and Stitch Techniques
This shawl features a sophisticated combination of two textures that work together to shape the triangle. The design incorporates a delicate lace pattern that initially grows with increases and then transitions to a straight panel as the shawl develops. Alongside this, a cable pattern provides an addictive knitting experience while simultaneously shaping the shawl through strategic increases.
The two patterns are worked simultaneously using intarsia technique, allowing the knitter to manage both textural elements in a single pass. This advanced construction method requires careful attention to pattern management and color or texture transitions. The shawl is completed with a nupp edging, a traditional lace finishing technique that creates decorative bumps or bobbles along the perimeter for an elegant, delicate border.
Materials and Tools
This pattern is designed for 4-ply yarn weight and requires 2 skeins of yarn. Knitting is worked on a US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle measuring 40 inches (100 cm). A matching crochet hook in the same size is needed for executing the nupp edging. Knitters should adjust needle size as needed to achieve the correct gauge for their specific yarn choice.
Difficulty Level
Rated as an advanced pattern, The Gardener Shawl is best suited for experienced knitters comfortable with lace work, cable techniques, intarsia construction, and specialty finishing methods like nupps.
