Product Description

The Adrian/Adrianne Baby blanket is the perfect blanket for any baby whether you are having a boy or girl. I gave this pattern the name Adrian because the name is unisex and there are multiple ways to spell it.

Name your baby Adrianne/Adrian If you want your new baby to have a fortuitous future, the Greek origin of this name means "Rich."

This is a great beginner pattern.

All you need is 260 yards skeins of super bulky yarn, 12mm /us 17 size needles, a good show, and or coffee shop. This is a beginner pattern or the perfect pattern for someone who would like to just not think while they knit!

The Adrian Blanket by Made By Lilian

Project Overview

The Adrian Blanket is a modern baby blanket knitting pattern designed by Made By Lilian as an accessible project for beginners. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a finished blanket measuring 29 x 29 inches, though crafters can customize the length by continuing the pattern rows. The blanket features a unique reversible design where each side displays distinct visual interest while maintaining equal beauty on both sides.

What Is Being Made

This pattern produces a cozy baby blanket suitable for nurseries, gifts, or personal use. The finished dimensions of 29 x 29 inches make it an ideal size for swaddling, stroller use, or decorative purposes. The reversible nature of the design means the blanket can be displayed or used with either side facing outward, providing versatility in styling and presentation.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The Adrian Blanket employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for beginners while creating sophisticated visual results. The pattern utilizes the following core stitches:

  • Knit (k) - The basic knit stitch forms the foundation and appears throughout the pattern
  • Purl (p) - Purl stitches create textural contrast and contribute to the reversible design
  • Knit 1 through the back loop (K1-tbl) - This variation adds dimensional detail to the pattern rows
  • Cast on (co) - The initial stitch setup using 56 stitches
  • Bind off (bo) - The finishing technique to secure stitches at project completion

The pattern structure consists of a setup section, repeating pattern rows, and finishing rows. The setup involves 8 rows of knitting all stitches (approximately 2 inches). The main pattern alternates between two rows: Pattern Row 1 combines knit, purl, and knit-through-back-loop stitches in a specific sequence, while Pattern Row 2 consists of knitting all stitches. This two-row repeat continues until reaching 27 inches in length, followed by 8 finishing rows of knitting all stitches (approximately 2 inches).

Materials Required

The Adrian Blanket pattern calls for super bulky yarn, which creates quick project completion and dramatic texture. The specific materials needed include:

  • Yarn: 260-300 yards of Super Bulky Yarn. The designer used ButterCream Luxe Craft Alpaca, requiring 2 full skeins at 130 yards each
  • Needles: US 17 / 12mm needles. Circular needles with a 32-inch cable are recommended for managing the blanket width comfortably
  • Additional supplies: Scissors for yarn finishing

Gauge and Customization

The pattern specifies a gauge of 12 rows x 8 stitches equaling 4 inches. This gauge measurement ensures the blanket reaches the intended finished dimensions. Crafters seeking a wider blanket can increase the stitch multiple by 3 plus 2 stitches, allowing for personalized sizing while maintaining the pattern integrity.

Skill Level and Accessibility

Rated as easy and suitable for beginners, the Adrian Blanket pattern makes an excellent introductory project for new knitters. The straightforward stitch combinations, simple pattern repeat, and forgiving super bulky yarn weight create an achievable learning experience while producing professional-looking results.
