Product Description
Ten Hours Sweater is a simple and quick knitting pattern, suitable for an absolute beginner. It is a stash busting project, scroll through photos for some yarn ideas.
Techniques: knit, purl, m1L, m1R, k2tog, ssk and yo. Links to educational videos are provided in the pattern.
This pattern is my first take on the contiguous sweater construction. I adapted it for this particular sweater, by reducing the sleeve seams to a single seam, giving it an airy, oversized look and a drape fit. It is a very simple sweater to knit, with a very fashionable appeal. You will learn how to influence the drape by changing the increase rate. Enjoy!

What is Being Made
The Ten Hours Sweater is a beginner-friendly knitted pullover designed for quick completion. This project is engineered to be completed in approximately ten hours, making it an ideal choice for knitters seeking a fast, satisfying garment project. The sweater is available in multiple sizes with yardage requirements ranging from 300 to 450 meters of primary yarn, depending on the chosen size.
Yarn and Materials
This design offers flexibility in yarn selection to achieve the desired gauge and finished fabric. The sweater can be constructed using several yarn combinations:
- Approximately 300–350–400–450 meters of yarn held double (totaling 600–700–800–900 meters in single strand yardage), paired with worsted weight yarn
- Alternatively, lace mohair yarn held triple or quadruple, combined with a single strand of merino yarn
- Any yarn combination that achieves the required gauge is suitable
The pattern is worked on 10mm (US15) knitting needles or the size necessary to obtain proper gauge. A darning needle (blunt-end tapestry needle) is required for finishing.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The Ten Hours Sweater employs fundamental knitting techniques appropriate for beginner-level knitters. The construction utilizes essential knitting stitches and methods including:
- Cast on (CO): Foundation stitches to begin the project
- Knit (K) and Purl (P) stitches: The foundational stitches of knitted fabric
- Yarn over (yo): Technique for creating decorative holes and increasing stitch count
- Increases: Make one right (m1R) and make one left (m1L) methods for shaping
- Decreases: Knit two together (k2tog) and slip slip knit (ssk) techniques for garment shaping
- Bind off (BO): Finishing technique to secure final stitches
The pattern is worked in rounds, indicated by abbreviations such as rnd(s), with markers placed to track the beginning of round (m)BOR and other significant points in the pattern. The design incorporates repeat sections marked with double asterisks (**) to streamline instructions.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 56 stitches measured over a defined width, which must be achieved with the chosen yarn and needle combination to ensure proper fit. The sweater is offered in multiple sizes, with yardage increasing incrementally to accommodate different measurements.
Design Details
The Ten Hours Sweater is shown in Ingenua yarn by Katia Yarn in two colorways: black and pearl light grey. The design emphasizes efficiency and accessibility, making it an excellent project for knitters developing their skills while creating a wearable finished garment in a remarkably short timeframe.
