Yarn Substitution Notes: This pattern uses a double strand of Caron Simply Soft throughout. I don't recommend substituting because Simply Soft, while rated a worsted weight (4), is definitely on the light side. If substituting yarn, I highly recommend a light worsted weight yarn (3). Heavier worsted yarns such as Red Heart Super Saver or Vanna's Choice will produce a larger hat if doubled as the pattern calls for. Another alternative, if substitution is required is to use one strand of a good thick chunky (5) - but not a super chunky. If you are outside the US, I recommend a heavy DK weight yarn (if doubled) and a chunky (if single strand).

Following the pattern as it is written will produce a hat length sufficent for a medium adult head, perhaps a little on the long side, as it was designed to go over the ears for extra warmth in those cold winter mon
