Product Description
This comet came crashing into the earth. BAM! Total devastation. No celebrities, no cable TV, no water! It hasn’t rained in 11 years. Now, 20 people gotta squeeze into the same bathtub. So it ain’t all bad. - Tank Girl
This is a pattern for tank top worked from the under-bust to the straps and then, rejoining yarn, worked from the under-bust to the bottom edge. A slight A-line to the body is created by increasing needles size. The bust and body are worked in the round and may be easily adjusted for a personal fit. The straps are worked (flat) and joined (at top of shoulder) with a Kitchener’s Stitch graft. The changes between stripes include one round of a knit/slip st patterning. Once the main body and straps are complete, sts are picked up for the neckline and armhole edges. A simple Garter St edge is worked before binding off.
Super Tank by Bunnymuff - Mona Zillah
What Is Being Made
The Super Tank is a sleeveless knit top designed by independent designer Mona Zillah under the Bunnymuff label. This tank garment is suitable for knitters of all skill levels, classified as a beginner-friendly project that produces a finished wearable piece ideal for warm weather or layering.
Craft and Primary Technique
This pattern is designed for knitting, the primary craft technique used throughout the project. The Super Tank employs fundamental knitting methods accessible to beginners while creating a polished, finished garment.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The pattern incorporates essential knitting stitches and techniques including:
- Cast on (CO) - The pattern uses long-tail cast-on as the default method for beginning stitches
- Knit stitch - The foundational stitch for constructing the tank fabric
- Purl stitch - Used in binding off techniques for a refined edge finish
- Icelandic bind off (BO) - A specialized finishing technique that creates a secure, elastic edge by knitting one stitch, returning it to the left needle, and working through multiple stitches in sequence to bind off all stitches with a professional appearance
Yarn and Materials
The Super Tank is worked in sport weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category ideal for creating breathable, drape-friendly garments. The recommended yarn is Silk Cotton Heather by Wolle's Yarn Creations, a premium blend composed of 70% cotton, 15% silk, and 15% merino wool. This fiber combination provides breathability, subtle sheen, and temperature regulation.
Approximate yarn requirements vary by size:
- Main color (MC) in Royal Heather: 1 to 3 cakes depending on size (320 yards/292.5 meters per 100g cake)
- Contrast color (CC) in Scarlet Heather: 1 to 2 cakes depending on size
The pattern requires multiple needle sizes to achieve proper gauge and construction:
- 3.25mm needles (US No. 3)
- 3.75mm needles (US No. 5)
- 4.0mm needles (US No. 6)
- 4.5mm needles (US No. 6)
This multi-needle approach allows knitters to adjust tension and fabric density across different sections of the tank, ensuring professional results and proper fit across multiple size options.
