Sublimely Crochet Doily by Elena TSK
What Is Being Made
Sublimely is an advanced crochet doily pattern featuring 35 rounds of intricate lacework. When worked in size 8 crochet thread, the finished doily measures approximately 19 inches in diameter, making it a substantial decorative piece suitable for tabletops, furniture accents, or display purposes.
Craft and Techniques
This is a downloadable crochet pattern written in U.S. terminology. The design employs advanced crochet techniques including post stitches, popcorn stitches, puff stitches, and picot details. These dimensional techniques create the spectacular visual texture and complexity that characterizes the Sublimely doily. The pattern progresses through 35 consecutive rounds, with each new round building upon the previous foundation to develop the full circular design.
Stitches Used
The Sublimely pattern incorporates a comprehensive range of crochet stitches to achieve its intricate appearance:
- Basic stitches: chain (ch), slip stitch (slst), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tr), and half double crochet (HDC)
- Post stitches: front post single crochet (FPsc), front post treble (FPtr), and back post double crochet (BPdc)
- Textured stitches: 6-treble popcorn, 6-double crochet popcorn, 2/3/4-stitch puff stitches, and chain-5 picot edging
The combination of these stitches creates dimensional relief and decorative picot details throughout the 35-round construction.
Materials and Gauge
The pattern is designed for size 8 crochet thread, with the original sample created using Filo di Scozia size 8 cotton crochet thread in white. Approximately 80–100 grams of thread (equivalent to 680 meters at 100 grams) is required to complete the doily. A 1.25 mm crochet hook is used in conjunction with the thread weight. Additional materials include a yarn needle for weaving in ends and scissors. The gauge for this pattern is established as the first 4 rounds measuring 1¾ inches or 5 centimeters, providing a reference point for tension and sizing adjustments.
