Product Description

The Springtime Blossom Beanie is a beginner level beanie made with my own worsted weight hand-dyed yarn from Daisy Stitch Co Fibers. The pictured beanie is made with Ruby Red Grapefruit.

I was really inspired by this soft coral/pink color. It just shouts spring and reminds me of blossoming flowers.

What is Being Made

The Springtime Blossom Beanie is an adult-sized crochet hat designed by Shelly Diaz and published by Daisy Stitch Co. This beanie is crafted to fit an average adult head with approximately 19 inches in circumference. The pattern is beginner-friendly and can be easily adjusted to create smaller or larger sizes to accommodate different head measurements.

Craft and Technique

This project uses the crochet technique, a fiber craft that creates fabric by looping yarn with a single hook. The Springtime Blossom Beanie is worked in the round, meaning stitches are continuously joined in a circular pattern rather than worked back and forth in rows. The crocheter turns the piece at the end of each round to maintain proper stitch orientation. This in-the-round construction method creates a seamless, tubular fabric ideal for hat construction.

Stitches Used

The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches suitable for beginner crafters:

  • Chain (Ch) – the foundation stitch used to create loops
  • Single Crochet (Sc) – a short, tight stitch that creates dense fabric
  • Half Double Crochet (Hdc) – a medium-height stitch offering balanced drape and structure
  • Slip Stitch (Ss) – used to join rounds seamlessly
  • Back Loop Only (BLO) – a technique where stitches are worked into only the back loop of the previous stitch, creating textured ribbing

The pattern notes that chains at the beginning of a row do not count as stitches, which is important for accurate stitch counting and pattern progression.

Materials and Tools

The Springtime Blossom Beanie requires worsted weight yarn, a medium-weight category ideal for creating structured, warm hats. The pictured sample uses one skein of Daisy Stitch Co Fibers Texas Strong Worsted in the Ruby Red Grapefruit colorway, which provides 215 yards from a 100-gram skein. A size H/5mm crochet hook is used to work the yarn at the recommended gauge of 15 stitches and 11 rows per 4 inches. Additional tools include scissors for cutting yarn, a yarn needle for weaving in ends, and a tape measure for checking gauge and finished dimensions.

Gauge and Sizing

Achieving proper gauge is essential for this pattern. The recommended gauge is 15 stitches and 11 rows over 4 inches when worked with the specified yarn and hook size. The pattern designer notes that individual crochet tension varies—some crafters work tighter stitches than others—so completing a test gauge swatch before beginning the full project is highly recommended. This ensures the finished beanie will fit correctly at the intended 19-inch circumference for adult sizing.
