Product Description

Everyone has those flimsy cubicles for storage, and sometimes they just don’t look good. So I have a solution. Fancy and Beautiful Crocheted Covers. I love lace and I have added a drop over lace designs that are easy to do with charts, and you will be happy with the consistent results.

These would be great as Easter Baskets, Mother’s Day gifts, Baby or Wedding shower, or for that new graduate!!

I used Red Heart Super Saver Solids

Hook size 8.0 mm (L) 6.5 mm (K) 4.0 mm (G)

Yardage to complete whole set is between 800 yards for MC & 500 yds for CC - (731 - 457 m ?)

There are three options to attach your crocheted cover to the collapsible cube. First is my favorite, hot glue, next is velcro, and last you can sew it in place. There is a great tutorial showing you how to do all three options.

Single Crochet Chevron Box Cover

What Is Being Made

This is a drop-over lace edge box cover designed to fit a collapsible storage bin measuring 10.5" x 10.5" x 11" high. The cover features a chevron pattern created with single crochet stitches and is customizable to match any décor. The finished cover slides down over the storage container and can be secured in place with velcro dots, strips, or sewn thread to prevent shifting.

Crochet Techniques Used

The Single Crochet Chevron Basket employs fundamental crochet construction methods suitable for intermediate crafters. The design uses a two-color technique, holding two strands of yarn simultaneously to create visual texture and pattern definition. The chevron stitch pattern is built using consistent single crochet stitches arranged to form the characteristic peaks and valleys of a chevron design. A decorative lace edge finish is incorporated at the top of the cover to add visual interest and a refined appearance.

Stitches Used

  • Single Crochet (SC): The primary stitch throughout the entire project, forming the base structure and chevron pattern
  • Single Crochet Decrease (SC DEC): Used to shape the cover and create the chevron valleys by inserting the hook, drawing up a loop, inserting in the next stitch, drawing up another loop, then pulling yarn through all loops on the hook
  • Half Double Crochet (HDC): Incorporated into the lace edge detail for a lighter, more open texture
  • Chain (CH): Used for foundation and spacing within the lace edge pattern
  • Slip Stitch (SLP ST): Used to join rounds and transition between sections

Materials and Yarn Weight

This pattern calls for worsted weight yarn (also known as aran weight), with approximately 500 yards of main color (MC) yarn and 400 yards of contrasting color (CC) yarn. The designer recommends Red Heart Super Saver or similarly stiff yarns for optimal structure and durability, though any worsted weight yarn will work. The example shown uses Red Heart Super Saver in "Soft White" for the main color and "Honeydew" for the contrasting color.

Crochet Hooks Required

The pattern provides flexibility with hook size options to accommodate different yarn preferences and desired finished dimensions:

  • L-11/8mm hook
  • K-10.5/6.5mm hook
  • G-6/4.0mm hook

Additional Materials

Beyond yarn and a crochet hook, you will need a collapsible storage bin (the pattern specifies bins found at Family Dollar with dimensions of 10.5" x 10.5" x 11" high) and either velcro dots/strips or a sewing needle with thread to secure the finished cover to the bin and prevent it from sliding during use.

Difficulty Level

This project is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work with multi-color techniques and stitch decreases to create structured, shaped garments.
