Product Description
A very easy and stylish hat for your lovely doll! I actually made this for my BTS Mattel doll. This hat will also fit barbie, Ken, and any doll with similar head size.
This pattern using simple ribbing, working in round, and basic decrease.
I made this in one size only. If you want a bigger size, try experimenting with bigger yarn and needles.
The samples knitted in very small amount (my digital scale has difficulty showing the weight) of fingering no brand local acrylic yarn in a solid color, but feel free using any fingering yarn that suited for 2.25 - 2.75 mm knitting needle.
You may not distribute or sell electronic or paper copies of this pattern, please respect the copyright. But you may sell the finished product, and I will be very happy if you mention the pattern source and my name. :-)
Thank you, hope you enjoy this pattern :)
Simple Beanie for Ken/Barbie Doll
What is Being Made
This is a miniature knitted beanie designed to fit Ken and Barbie dolls with a finished circumference of 12.5 cm. The pattern creates a classic beanie silhouette scaled down for doll-sized heads, making it an ideal accessory project for doll enthusiasts and knitters looking to expand their doll wardrobe collection.
Craft and Technique
This project uses knitting as the primary construction method. The beanie is worked in the round using double-pointed needles, which is a fundamental technique for creating seamless, cylindrical garments. Working in the round eliminates the need for seaming and creates a polished, professional finish on small projects like doll accessories.
Stitches Used
The pattern employs essential knitting stitches suitable for beginners advancing to intermediate skills:
- Knit (K) – the foundation stitch creating the primary fabric texture
- Purl (P) – used in combination with knit stitches for pattern variation
- Stockinette stitch – the primary fabric structure, created by alternating knit and purl rows when working flat, or knitting every round when working in the round
- Slip, slip, knit (SSK) – a left-leaning decrease stitch used for shaping the crown of the beanie
- Cast on – the foundation method for creating the initial stitches on the needles
Materials and Tools
The Simple Beanie requires minimal materials, making it an excellent stash-busting project:
- Yarn: 1 small ball of fingering weight yarn (approximately 4-ply weight). The designer notes that small leftover yarn from other projects works perfectly for this miniature accessory
- Needles: 2.5mm double-pointed needles (DPNs) for working in the round
Difficulty Level
Classified as Advanced Beginner, this pattern is ideal for knitters who have mastered basic cast-on and knit/purl stitches and are ready to develop skills in circular knitting and basic shaping techniques. The small scale and straightforward construction make it manageable while introducing the essential techniques of working with double-pointed needles and executing decreases for garment shaping.
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 1 cm equals 3 stitches in stockinette stitch. Maintaining proper gauge is essential for achieving the correct finished size of 12.5 cm in circumference, ensuring the beanie fits properly on Ken and Barbie doll heads.
