Product Description
The sweater is knitted from top down seamlessly. You will start with the back in two parts that you will join to work to the armholes. Then you will put the back stitches on holder to work the front in the same way as the back, and finally you will join the back and front to work in round until the end. The sleeves will be knitted in the round, by picking stitches around the armhole.
Sillons Sweater by Marion Crivelli
What Is Being Made
The Sillons Sweater is a knitted pullover garment designed by Marion Crivelli in collaboration with Maison Corlène. This intermediate-level knitting project is available in seven sizes ranging from extra-small through triple-extra-large, making it accessible for various body measurements. The finished garment features a fitted yoke construction with tailored sleeve shaping, designed to create a refined silhouette suitable for everyday wear.
Finished Measurements
The sweater is offered in the following size range:
- Bust circumference: 32 inches (81 cm) in XS through 55¾ inches (141½ cm) in XXXL
- Yoke depth: 7 inches (18 cm) in XS through 9¾ inches (25 cm) in XXXL
- Upper sleeve circumference: 11 inches (28 cm) in XS through 16¼ inches (41½ cm) in XXXL
- Sleeve length from underarm to cuff: 16½ to 18 inches (approximately 42 to 46 cm) depending on size
Knitting Techniques Used
The Sillons Sweater employs several intermediate knitting techniques to achieve its construction and shaping. The pattern utilizes short rows with the wrap and turn method to create a custom-fitted yoke, allowing for precise shaping at the neckline and shoulder area. This technique adds depth and dimension to the upper body of the garment.
Additional shaping techniques include increases worked as make-one stitches in both left and right directions (m1l and m1r), which are used to gradually expand the sweater width during construction. Decreases are incorporated through slip-slip-knit (ssk) reductions, which create clean, directional decreases for refined edges and shaping details.
Stitches and Stitch Details
The pattern incorporates several key stitches and stitch variations:
- Make-one left (m1l) and make-one right (m1r): These increase stitches are used to add stitches while maintaining the integrity of the fabric and creating invisible increases that blend seamlessly into the knit
- Slip-slip-knit (ssk): A left-leaning decrease stitch used for shaping and creating refined edges throughout the garment
- Knit through back loop (ktbl): This stitch variation twists the stitch for textural interest or to create a more defined edge
Materials and Yarn Weight
The Sillons Sweater is designed to be worked in 4-ply yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides excellent stitch definition and drape. This yarn weight is ideal for creating a garment with clear stitch visibility, making it well-suited for the intricate shaping techniques employed in this design. Knitters will require appropriate needles sized for 4-ply yarn to achieve proper gauge and fabric consistency throughout the project.
Skill Level
Rated as an intermediate difficulty project, the Sillons Sweater is suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex construction methods. The pattern requires comfort with short-row shaping, various increase and decrease techniques, and the ability to follow detailed yoke and sleeve shaping instructions. Knitters new to these techniques will benefit from consulting the referenced tutorials provided within the pattern documentation.
