Product Description
Casual yet easy to dress up, this is a perfect 3-season cardigan with 3/4-length sleeves. Originally published as a Classic Elite Yarns design, I’ve updated it in a finer yarn and added two larger sizes. The finer yarn is perfect for summer wear and the organic wool and cotton blend add just the right touch of warmth. The body is worked back and forth in one piece from the bottom up, then divided at the armholes to work the fronts and back separately. The shoulders are shaped using wrap-and-turn short-rows. The sleeves are worked in the round from the cuff up to the armhole, entirely in the lace pattern. Once the underarm stitches are bound off, continue the lace pattern back and forth to shape the cap. Narrow bands of garter stitch are added to finish off the front edges and neck.
Shoreline Cardigan by Therese Chynoweth
What is Being Made
The Shoreline Cardigan is an intermediate-level knitted cardigan featuring a standard fit with three-quarter length sleeves. This downloadable PDF pattern is designed by independent designer Therese Chynoweth and offers eight size options ranging from XS to 4XL, with finished bust measurements from 33 inches to 60 inches [84 to 152.5 cm]. The cardigan is designed to be worn with 2–4 inches [5–10 cm] of positive ease for comfortable layering, with a finished length ranging from 21½ to 26 inches [54.5 to 66 cm] depending on size selected.
Techniques and Construction
This knitting project employs standard cardigan construction techniques suitable for intermediate-level knitters. The pattern provides comprehensive sizing instructions written for the smallest size (XS) with larger sizes given in parentheses throughout. When only one number appears in the instructions, it applies uniformly to all eight sizes. The three-quarter length sleeves and standard fitting silhouette require understanding of basic shaping, increases, and decreases typical of fitted cardigan construction.
Stitches Used
While the complete stitch details are not fully visible in the provided pattern excerpt, the Shoreline Cardigan utilizes knitting stitches appropriate for sport weight yarn construction. The pattern instructions reference standard knitting abbreviations and techniques common to intermediate cardigan patterns, though specific stitch patterns are not detailed in the available content.
