Uradale Jumper weight (4ply sport weight) organic unbleached dyed yarn - Tormentil

Wool is such a wonderful material to work with so I've put that sheepy goodness into this design! This pattern contains a few different colourways; Tormentil/Mermaid, Juniper Heath/Fawn and Puffin!! Quite the stash-buster, it doesn't take much wool to make up (28g) and it is a really quick knit! This motif is very symmetrical, so it is easy to follow and a bit addictive!
Wool yarn used is sport weight. I love the Jamieson's Spindrift in Mermaid as well as the gorgeous Uradale Tormentil colour which really spices up the pattern and will definitely get you noticed! This pattern also works well with any high contrast colour choices. This pattern has been test-knitted and, having knitted up a few samples myself, I know how cosy and warm it feels and looks.
The Shepherdess Headband is a knitted accessory designed by Alex Laight of Laight Night Knits. This intermediate-level headband features a charming sheep motif created through colorwork techniques. The design comes in three sizes to fit different head measurements: Small (54cm crown measurement, 140 stitches), Medium (57.5cm crown measurement, 154 stitches), and Large (61cm crown measurement, 168 stitches). The sheep pattern that appears on this headband also coordinates with other designs in the Shepherdess collection, including a matching dress and jumper pattern.
This pattern employs colorwork knitting as its primary technique, allowing knitters to create the decorative sheep motif across the headband. The colorwork chart guides stitchers through the pattern repeat, which spans rows 7 through 22. The headband is worked in the round using circular needles, which is a common method for creating seamless, tubular knitwear. The pattern uses the long tail cast-on method to begin the project, a traditional technique that creates a neat, elastic edge suitable for headwear.
While the complete stitch details are referenced in the full pattern, the Shepherdess Headband utilizes fundamental knitting stitches combined with colorwork techniques. The pattern repeat structure (rows 7-22) indicates the use of stockinette stitch as the base fabric, with color changes worked into the design to create the sheep motif. Stitch markers are employed throughout the project to help track pattern repeats and maintain consistent shaping across the crown measurement.
The Shepherdess Headband is designed to be knitted with two colors of yarn in 4-ply weight, sport weight, or lace weight. The pattern specifies the use of wool yarn, celebrating what the designer describes as "sheepy goodness" in the fiber choice. The two colorways used in the sample are Mermaid (main color) and Tormentil (contrast color). Knitters will need two 40cm circular needles: one in 2.5mm (UK size) for the initial cast-on and ribbing sections, and one in 3mm (UK size) for the main body of the headband. Additional equipment includes stitch markers or waste yarn to track pattern sections during knitting.
