Product Description
Septentrio, onis, m.: the northern regions, the north, the north wind.
Septentrio is a sweater inspired by nordic sweater, but with a modern twist. I wanted to create a clean design, a simplified version, with a rather simple motif. Thus, this design can be a good way to learn stranded motif in the round (which is not difficult at all!).
Septentrio is a unisex design, for boys and girls. Choose the colors which they love !
This sweater is available in 7 sizes, from 2 to 14 years.
It is worked from top down, all in the round and seamlessly.
You will need DK yarn : 400 (500/600/700/800/900/1000) meters / 440 (550/660/770/880/990/1100) yards for main colour and 20 (20/20/20/25/25/25) meters / 22 (22/22/22/27/27/27) yards for 3 contrasting colours. But feel free to use only one or two contrasting colours !
Septentrio exists in women sizes too: Septentrio (women).
Septentrio (kids) Round Yoke Sweater by Atelier des Glenettes
What is Being Made
The Septentrio (kids) is a children's round yoke sweater designed by Atelier des Glenettes. This downloadable knitting pattern provides sizing for children ranging from age 2 through age 14, with finished chest measurements from 38 cm (15 inches) up to 87.5 cm (34 1/2 inches). The sweater features a classic round yoke construction, a popular seamless knitting technique that creates a fitted shoulder and neckline area before the body expands outward.

The pattern includes seven size options accommodating the following measurements:
- Age 2: Height 36 cm / 14 inches, sleeve length 38 cm / 15 inches, chest 59 cm / 23 1/4 inches

Knitting Techniques
The Septentrio (kids) employs the round yoke construction method, a seamless top-down approach that begins at the neckline. Knitters work in the round from the yoke downward, progressively increasing stitches to shape the shoulders and create the armholes before transitioning to the body. This technique eliminates the need for seaming and allows for easy customization of length. The pattern incorporates colorwork elements, as indicated by the inclusion of contrasting colour yardage requirements, adding visual interest through strategic colour changes within the design.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches suitable for a beginner-level project. Key stitches include:
- Stockinette stitch: The primary fabric stitch, created by alternating knit and purl rows (or knit rounds when working circularly), producing a smooth, flat surface
- Knit (k): Basic knit stitch
- Purl (p): Basic purl stitch
- Knit 2 together (k2tog): A right-leaning decrease used for shaping
- Slip, knit, pass slipped stitch over (skp): A left-leaning decrease for symmetrical shaping
- Make 1 with Backwards Loop (Mb): An increase method that adds a new stitch
The gauge is established at 21 stitches by 28 rounds over 10 cm (4 inches) in stockinette stitch using the larger needles, providing a standard reference for achieving proper fit.
Materials and Tools
The Septentrio (kids) requires DK weight yarn, a lightweight yarn category ideal for children's garments. Yardage amounts vary by size: the smallest size (age 2) requires 400 meters (440 yards) of main colour yarn, increasing to 1000 meters (1100 yards) for the largest size (age 14). Each size also requires 20 to 25 meters (22 to 27 yards) of contrasting colour yarn for each accent colour used
