Product Description
Easy: Nothing difficult about this at all!
This pattern is the fifth release of a series of headband and flower patterns meant to be used as ‘stash busters’. I will be releasing the patterns separately first and then combining them all into an ebook.
The patterns are written as ‘recipes’ to enable you to use any yarn you have in your ‘stash’. The gauge, hook size and type of yarn isn’t important to get a good result.
If you're looking for fast and easy this is the pattern for you! It can be whipped up in about an hour and is a lovely addition to any outfit. Makes a quick gift if you are looking for something and have little time, or an extra for those Christmas stockings! :)

Sadie Headwrap/Turban by Sarahjanedesigns
What is Being Made
The Sadie Headwrap is a crocheted headwrap or turban-style headband designed as a versatile accessory. This downloadable crochet pattern creates a fitted headwrap suitable for various occasions and styling preferences. The design is classified as intermediate difficulty, making it accessible to crocheters with some foundational experience beyond complete beginners.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs several fundamental crochet techniques to construct the headwrap. The design incorporates gathering techniques, where yarn is pulled tight through a row of slip stitches to create shape and fit. The pattern uses a strategic approach to hook sizing, recommending a hook two sizes larger for the beginning chain than for the main body work. This technique adjustment helps create the proper tension and drape for the finished headwrap.
Stitches Used
The Sadie Headwrap pattern utilizes the following crochet stitches, written in UK terminology:
- Chain (ch) - used for the foundation and throughout the pattern
- Double crochet (dc) - a fundamental stitch for building structure
- Slip stitch (sl st) - used for joining rounds and creating the gathering row
- Treble (tr) - a taller stitch used within the pattern
- V-Stitch (V) - a special stitch defined as (tr, ch1, tr) worked in the same stitch, creating a decorative, lacy element
The pattern is written using UK crochet terminology, so stitches should be worked according to UK definitions rather than US equivalents.
Materials and Yarn
The Sadie Headwrap is intentionally designed as a stash buster pattern, meaning it can be made from leftover yarn in your collection. Rather than specifying particular yarn types, weights, or yardage requirements, the pattern is written as a recipe format. This flexible approach allows crocheters to adapt the pattern to whatever yarn they have available, making it an excellent project for using up partial skeins and yarn remnants.
Hook Selection
Hook size is determined by the yarn choice rather than being fixed in the pattern. Crocheters should select a hook appropriate for their chosen yarn, typically following the recommendation printed on the yarn band. The pattern specifically notes that using a hook two sizes larger for the beginning chain creates optimal results, with an example given of using a 6.5mm hook for the foundation chain when working with standard weight yarn.
Pattern Format and Notes
This is a downloadable PDF pattern that uses standard crochet abbreviations and instructions. The pattern includes a comprehensive abbreviations key covering common terms such as stitch (st/s), chain (ch), double crochet (dc), slip stitch (sl st), beginning (beg), pattern (patt), treble (tr), repeat (rep), space (sp), yarn over hook (yoh), continue (cont), round (Rnd), and skip (sk). The flexible recipe-style format makes the Sadie Headwrap an adaptable project suitable for various yarn weights and fiber contents.
