Product Description
Red poppies is a sleeveless top, worked seamless from the top down. The back is knit from the provisional cast on at the shoulders. The two fronts are knitted in the opposite direction from the provisional cast on too. At the underarms the garment is joined in the round and the top is continued to the desired length. A lace section, on the left side only, makes this project original.
Yarn: 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 4) skeins of HANNAH by Borgo de’ Pazzi 100% lyocell - 100g / 330 mt (360 yds) or approx. 450 (500, 600, 750, 900, 1200) mt of fingering weight yarn.
This yarn tends to grow vertically. The measurement written in pattern considers this elongation after blocking. If you use a different yarn, wash and block your swatch.
Red Poppies Sleeveless Top by Annarita Ceretti
What is Being Made
Red Poppies is a sleeveless knitted top designed by independent designer Annarita Ceretti. This garment is available in six sizes ranging from Small to 3XL, with bust circumferences from 84 cm (33 inches) to 130 cm (51 inches). The pattern includes 2 to 5 cm of positive ease built into the sizing, allowing for comfortable wear with room for movement. The finished garment shown in the pattern is displayed in size Medium with 4 cm of positive ease.
Construction Technique
Red Poppies is constructed using a seamless top-down knitting method, which means the garment is worked from the shoulders downward without requiring seaming. The pattern employs a distinctive construction approach where the back is knitted from a provisional cast-on at the shoulders, and both front pieces are similarly knitted in the opposite direction from their own provisional cast-on edges. Once the individual pieces reach the underarms, they are joined together in the round, and the top is then continued downward to the desired finished length. This seamless construction creates a smooth, professional finish with minimal seaming.
Design Features
The defining design element of this top is a lace section worked on the left side only, which adds visual interest and originality to the garment. This asymmetrical lace detail distinguishes Red Poppies from standard sleeveless tops and provides an elegant, decorative accent to the finished piece.
Yarn and Materials
Red Poppies is designed to be worked in 4-ply weight yarn. The pattern shown uses HANNAH yarn by Borgo de' Pazzi, which is composed of 100% lyocell fiber. Each skein provides 100 grams and 330 meters of yardage. The yardage requirements vary by size: sizes Small, Medium, and Large require 2 skeins each; sizes XL and 2XL require 3 skeins each; and size 3XL requires 4 skeins.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience. The seamless top-down construction, provisional cast-on technique, and lace work require intermediate-level skills and familiarity with techniques such as working in the round and reading lace charts.
Pattern Format
Red Poppies is provided as a downloadable PDF pattern for personal use only. The pattern is intended for individual crafters and is not to be sold or distributed. Items created from this pattern are also not to be sold for commercial purposes.
