Product Description
This is a semi slouch hat with a wide band and crisscross motif. It is so much fun to make and a great way to firm up those slip stitching skills. It is easily adjustable and you can add a pom pom or keep it off, it looks great both ways!
This hat was actually an acident. HaHa! I was playing around with creating a pattern for mens hats using my husbands head as a guide. It ended up being too big and to... "froo froo" as he put it. So I put it up in my shop thinking, hey maybe someone will like it right? No even twenty minutes on my shop and someone bought it and ordered another one in a different color! I could't believe it. What started as a "Whoops" has now become one of my best sellers!
The pattern has been tested by myself and another pattern tester. I provide pictures to help through the more difficult parts, and you can always reach me to answer any questions. You can find my contact info in my designer profile.
Randa Slouch Hat by Knottie Hooks
What Is Being Made
The Randa Slouch Hat is a unique crochet slouch hat designed by Faydra Kenning and published by Knottie Hooks. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a comfortable, relaxed-fit hat featuring a distinctive slouchy silhouette. The design showcases creative construction techniques and stitch variety, making it an eye-catching accessory suitable for various color combinations and personal style preferences.
Construction Method and Approach
The Randa Slouch Hat is worked from the top down, beginning with a magic circle foundation. This method allows for seamless construction starting at the crown and working downward to the brim. The top-down approach provides flexibility in fit and makes it easy to try on the hat as you progress through the pattern. The pattern includes detailed instructions for the magic circle technique, ensuring crocheters of intermediate skill level can successfully complete the project.
Stitches and Techniques Used
This pattern employs a variety of crochet stitches throughout the design, which contributes to the hat's unique texture and visual interest. The combination of different stitch types creates depth and dimension, demonstrating out-of-the-box thinking in the pattern design. The stitch variety is key to achieving the slouch hat's distinctive appearance and ensures an engaging crochet experience for intermediate-level makers.
Yarn and Materials
Yarn Weight: The pattern calls for #4 Aran weight yarn, though the designer notes that almost any worsted weight yarn can be substituted. The sample shown uses Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek, a 100% low-pill acrylic yarn, in Teal Blue (1 skein, approximately 5 oz/142 g; 232 yds/213 m) with Ivory accents (less than 10 yards).
Hooks: The pattern requires two crochet hook sizes: a 5mm (H-8) hook and a 4mm (G-6) hook, allowing for gauge adjustments and stitch definition changes throughout the construction.
