Product Description
The leaves have started to fall from the trees, and it’s bringing with it the fall rains. Soon the rains will change to snow, but for now we are welcoming the last vestiges of our vegetable garden and shrubs. Far too soon the green will all give way to white, and a hat will be a normal part of our attire. This Raindrop pattern offers a custom fitted length. You can choose a close, tailored fit, or embrace a a relaxed, slouchy fit. A slouchy fit, it makes it much easier to wear if you have long hair that you keep tied up. I can fit a faux bun under the hat very easily.

Raindrops Hat by TLCrafts and Design
What Is Being Made
The Raindrops Hat is a custom-fitted knit hat designed by TLCrafts and Design that offers versatility in styling and wear. This intermediate-level knitting project features an adjustable length, allowing knitters to choose between a close, tailored fit or a relaxed, slouchy silhouette. The slouchy option is particularly practical for wearing hair up, as it easily accommodates a faux bun underneath. This makes the Raindrops Hat an excellent choice for those seeking a functional yet fashionable accessory suitable for transitional fall weather and cooler seasons.
Techniques Used
This knit hat employs several essential knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate-level crafters. The pattern utilizes magic loop construction, a method that allows knitters to work in the round using a single long circular needle rather than multiple needles. Alternatively, knitters may choose traditional 16-inch circular needles or double-pointed needles (dpns) based on personal preference. The hat construction includes a distinct brim section worked separately from the body and decreases, requiring a transition between needle sizes to achieve proper gauge and shaping. This multi-section approach ensures a well-fitted crown and professional finish.
Stitches Used
While the specific stitch pattern details are referenced in the pattern as "Raindrops," the construction involves fundamental knitting stitches combined to create the textured or patterned fabric characteristic of this design. The pattern requires knitters to work increases and decreases to shape the hat from the brim through the crown, demonstrating intermediate-level stitch manipulation skills.
Materials: Yarn and Needles
- Yarn: Araucania Yarns Lujoso in Aran Weight, featuring a luxurious blend of 50% Baby Alpaca, 35% Extrafine Merino Wool, and 15% Silk. Each skein provides 164 yards (150 meters) and weighs 3.5 ounces (100 grams). The pattern requires approximately 120 yards (110 meters) for the smallest size, 150 yards (137 meters) for the medium size, and 180 yards (165 meters) for the largest size, worked in Charcoal colorway.
- Brim Needles: US 7 / 4.5 mm circular needles, available in 40-inch (100 cm) length for magic loop method, or 16-inch (40 cm) circular needles and double-pointed needles as alternatives.
- Body and Decreases Needles: US 8 / 5 mm circular needles for continued in-the-round construction and crown shaping.
The combination of premium natural fibers in the Lujoso yarn—baby alpaca for softness, extrafine merino wool for warmth and elasticity, and silk for sheen and drape—creates a hat that is both comfortable and elegant. The aran weight yarn works quickly, making this an accessible intermediate project that produces a finished hat suitable for fall and early winter wear.
