Product Description
I designed the Priya Earrings after seeing some cute earrings at Target. Me being the crafty type didn't see a need to buy them when I could just make some myself! I wanted to keep it simple and cute with the goal that even someone who doesn't often make jewelry can easily make them.
This pattern offers 2 sizes/style options so you can create your perfect "go-to" pair of earrings. the 6 petal style is slighly smaller; perfect to wear when running errands with the kids while the 12 petal style is a bit larger for a more sassy, date night feel.
Priya Earrings Crochet Pattern
What is Being Made
The Priya Earrings are delicate crocheted jewelry pieces designed by Amber Zumbrun. These earrings feature a floral petal construction and are available in two size options: a 6-petal version and a 12-petal version. The finished earrings are mounted on fish hook earring findings measuring 1 inch, making them suitable for everyday wear or special occasions.
Craft and Technique Overview
This is a beginner-level crochet project that uses fundamental crochet techniques to create dimensional floral elements. The pattern is written in US crochet terminology and employs a circular construction method, starting from a central ring and building outward through successive rounds. The technique combines basic stitches with strategic stitch placement to create petals that have natural shaping and visual interest.
Crochet Stitches Used
- Chain (Ch) - Used to create the foundation ring and spacing between stitches
- Slip Stitch (Sl st) - Joins rounds and connects stitches without adding height
- Single Crochet (Sc) - The shortest stitch, used for structure and petal edges
- Double Crochet (Dc) - Medium-height stitch used within petal construction
- Triple Crochet (Trc) - The tallest stitch used, creates the peaked center of each petal
Pattern Structure and Techniques
The pattern uses several important crochet conventions to ensure clarity and accuracy. Stitch markers are placed at the beginning of each round to track progress. Stitches indicated with asterisks (*) denote repeats that continue around the entire round. Stitch counts are provided in parentheses at the end of each round for verification. Stitches enclosed in curly brackets { } indicate multiple stitches worked into the same stitch or space, creating the dimensional petal effect.
The petal construction follows a specific sequence: each petal consists of 1 single crochet, 1 double crochet, 2 triple crochets, 1 double crochet, and 1 single crochet, all worked into the same chain-2 space. This graduated stitch progression creates a natural petal shape that peaks in the center with the taller triple crochets.
The pattern also employs back loop only (BLO) stitching in certain rounds, which creates a textured ridge that adds visual definition to the earring structure.
Materials and Tools Required
- Crochet Hook: 2.25 mm hook for the 12-petal version
- Yarn/Thread: #10 crochet thread, a fine weight material ideal for delicate jewelry work
- Findings: 2 fish hook earring findings, each measuring 1 inch
- Notions: Stitch marker for tracking rounds and a darning needle for finishing
- Finishing: Fabric stiffener to set the shape and structure of the finished petals
Difficulty Level
This pattern is classified as beginner-friendly, making it accessible to those new to crochet. While it uses multiple stitch types, the repetitive nature of the rounds and clear stitch abbreviations make it manageable for developing crocheters. The small scale and fine thread require some attention to detail, but the straightforward construction method keeps the learning curve gentle.
