Product Description
Pebble Beach Light Shawl is essentially the same pattern as my Pebble Beach Shawl which is made in a Chunky yarn; but it shows how different one shawl can look when it's made in different weight yarns.
The pictures shown use Red Heart It's a Wrap - one ball in Western, the blue shawl is Scheepjes Whirl - one ball. The pink one is Northern Lights from James C. Brett
This pattern is great for a beginner to make a shawl as you start from one point of the triangle and just increase on one side only working in rows, maintaining a straight side. When you get to the centre you begin decreasing till you return to a point. As you are working across the piece in rows it's easy to count your stitches and and see if your pattern is on track as your shawl grows.
You can decide how big to make your shawl as the pattern contains all the information needed to adjust the size.
Pebble Beach Light Shawl
What is Being Made
The Pebble Beach Light Shawl is a crocheted shawl designed by Crochet 24/7, constructed using a side-to-side building method. This lightweight shawl is suitable for crafters of all skill levels, with a beginner-friendly difficulty rating that makes it an excellent project for those new to shawl construction or looking for a straightforward, relaxing crochet experience.
Crochet Techniques Used
This shawl employs a side-to-side construction technique, meaning the shawl is built horizontally from one edge to the opposite edge rather than from the center outward or top-down. This approach creates a natural drape and allows for easy stitch counting and consistent shaping throughout the project. The side-to-side method is particularly beginner-friendly as it provides clear stitch placement and reduces the complexity of managing increases or decreases across multiple rows.
Stitches and Special Techniques
The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches combined with decorative cluster techniques to create visual interest and texture:
- Chain (CH) – The foundation stitch used to create the base of the shawl and for stitch spacing throughout the pattern
- Double Crochet (DC) – A basic stitch providing structure and density to the fabric
- Treble Crochet (TRC) – A taller stitch used to create openwork sections and add height variation to the design
- UK Cluster – A special stitch combining multiple treble crochets worked together in the same stitch to create textured focal points
- TR3TOG (3 Treble Crochet Together) – Three treble crochets decreased into a single stitch, creating decorative clusters that add dimension and visual texture to the shawl
- TR2TOG (2 Treble Crochet Decrease) – A decrease technique combining two treble crochets into one stitch, used for shaping and creating tapered sections
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Pebble Beach Light Shawl is designed to work with 4-ply or DK weight yarn, both of which are lightweight options that create an airy, delicate fabric ideal for a light shawl. The pattern uses UK crochet terminology throughout. While the specific hook size and yardage requirements are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, DK and 4-ply weights typically pair well with hooks in the 3.5mm to 4.5mm range, though crafters should refer to the complete pattern for exact specifications.
