Patina Lace Shawlette Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
The Patina Lace Shawlette is a rectangular crocheted shawl designed by Marie Segares. This finished accessory measures 9.5 inches (24 cm) wide by 56 inches (142 cm) long after blocking, making it a versatile wrap suitable for layering or draping across the shoulders. The shawlette features a distinctive color-blocked design created by working the same lace stitch pattern in different directions and colorways.
Techniques and Construction
This crochet shawlette employs a straightforward construction method ideal for beginners. The pattern uses a single, repeatable lace stitch worked in alternating directions to achieve the color-blocked effect. By changing yarn colors and reversing the stitch direction, the designer creates visual interest and dimension without requiring complex shaping or increases. The rectangular structure eliminates the need for curved decreases or intricate shaping techniques, making this an accessible project for crocheters new to lace work.
Stitches Used
The Patina Lace Shawlette relies on an easy lace stitch pattern that is repeated throughout the project. This stitch is worked in different directions to create the color-blocked sections. The use of a single, simple stitch pattern repeated across the entire piece makes this pattern beginner-friendly while still producing an elegant, lacy finished fabric.
Materials and Yarn
This pattern calls for sport weight yarn, specifically Terra Fibres Handspun Merino Sport in three colorways: Caramel (CA), Caramel/Mint Marled (CB), and Mint (CC). The yarn is 100% Merino wool, with each color requiring approximately 164 yards (150 meters) per skein. Crafters may substitute any handspun or light weight yarn in comparable yardage, using two solid colors and one marled colorway for the color-blocked effect.
The recommended tool is a US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or any hook size needed to achieve the correct gauge for the pattern. Hook size may be adjusted based on individual tension and yarn choice to ensure proper fabric drape and finished dimensions.
