Product Description
This pattern is a great accessory for cooler days. It can be made as finger less or half finger , it is very easy to make changes to it in terms of embellishments , colors and sizes... Cold night at the computer made me think I needed these, then a workmate asked for some with half fingers, after that I had a pattern! Enjoy! The yarn specified is not the one used for the models previously crocheted; but the Hayfield Bonus DK should work great. You need two contrasting colors of your choice; olive and Aran are just suggestions.
Paloma Mittens: Half-Finger Gloves and Fingerless Mittens by Mariella Kennedy
What is Being Made
The Paloma Mittens pattern creates a pair of practical half-finger gloves, also referred to as fingerless mittens. These versatile hand coverings were originally designed to provide warmth during cold autumn days while allowing the wearer to use their fingers freely for computer work and other tasks. The pattern includes instructions for multiple sizes: Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large, and Girl, making it suitable for a wide range of wearers.
Design and Construction
Created by designer Mariella Kennedy of Chilean Hands, these mittens feature a simple, functional design that prioritizes both comfort and practicality. The half-finger construction allows for full finger mobility while the mitten portion covers the hand and wrist area for warmth. This hybrid design makes the Paloma Mittens ideal for anyone who needs to maintain dexterity while keeping their hands warm during cooler weather.
Crochet Techniques and Stitches
The Paloma Mittens are constructed using fundamental crochet techniques, making them an intermediate-level project. While the pattern description indicates straightforward construction methods, the inclusion of multiple size variations and the need to achieve proper fit demonstrates intermediate-level skill requirements. The pattern utilizes basic crochet stitches appropriate for creating a fitted, wearable garment with clean edges and consistent structure.
Materials and Tools
The Paloma Mittens pattern is worked using acrylic yarn with a 4 mm crochet hook. While the original design was created with simple acrylic yarn due to material availability, the pattern is flexible and can be adapted to work with any yarn fiber of your choice. This adaptability allows crafters to customize their mittens based on personal preference, desired warmth level, and available materials.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern provided in the Second Edition by Chilean Hands (2014). The comprehensive pattern document includes detailed sections for each size, construction details, a gallery of finished examples, and designer contact information for questions or custom requests.
