Product Description

I had yarn left after knitting the lovely As you Wish by Boo-Knits.

I wanted to make a matching accessory and came up with these. :) They are beaded, just like the shawl.

I used Malabrigo sock, but any fingering or light fingering yarn will work well. The cuffs can be worn as traditional cuffs or fingerless mitts, but also with a nice dress jacket or on top of a shirt to match the beautiful shawl.

They are pretty stretchy and fits both skinny and chubby wrists. If your wrists are very chubby - go up a size for the first part of the pattern.

They're a pretty fast knit and the pattern is very easy to remember.

All the credit for the beautiful lace chart goes too Boo Knits, I've only made minor changes to her original charts.

Orpine Lace Cuffs by Petra Lassen

What is Being Made

Orpine Lace Cuffs are delicate knitted lace cuffs designed by Petra Lassen, drawing inspiration from the shawl As you wish by Boo Knits. These intermediate-level cuffs feature decorative lace patterning and optional beadwork, making them an elegant accessory project suitable for knitters with foundational skills and experience working with lace techniques.

Techniques Used

This pattern employs several advanced knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate crafters. The primary construction method utilizes the magic loop technique, allowing knitters to work two cuffs simultaneously on a single long circular needle with interchangeable tips. This efficient approach reduces the number of live stitches to manage while creating a matching pair.

The design incorporates lace knitting, which creates openwork patterns through strategic yarn overs and decreases. Optional beading adds embellishment and visual interest to the finished cuffs. The beading process involves using a fine crochet hook to thread glass beads onto individual stitches, requiring precision and careful stitch manipulation to secure beads permanently within the knitted fabric.

Stitches Used

The pattern utilizes fundamental lace stitches including:

  • Knit stitches with integrated beading
  • Yarn overs to create lace openings
  • sk2p (slip, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over) decreases, which can be beaded after execution
  • incr3 (increase 3 stitches), which can accommodate beading similar to standard knit stitches

Materials

Yarn: Malabrigo Sock in the Arco Iris colorway, requiring 35 grams total yardage for the pair of cuffs.

Notions and Beads: The pattern includes optional embellishment with 75 size 6 glass beads for added elegance. Stitch markers assist in tracking pattern repeats throughout the knitting process.

Needles and Hooks: The pattern requires multiple needle sizes to achieve proper gauge and construction:

  • US 1½ (2.5 mm) needles
  • US 4 (3.5 mm) needles
  • US 7 (4.5 mm) needles
  • US 13 (0.8 mm) crochet hook for bead placement (US 12 / 1.0 mm also works)

Knitters may use one long circular needle with interchangeable tips as recommended by the designer, or substitute any preferred needle method for working small circumference projects.
