Product Description
This is a pattern for a tiny giraffe! It's only 1.5" sitting! It's a member of Oh, so tiny! Collection.
Oh, so tiny! Collection has been created especially for those who (like me) love tiny things. It consists of eight cute animals: elephant, giraffe, rabbit, owl, sheep, reindeer, bear and turtle. Each amigurumi is not larger than 1.5" (2,5cm) high, sitting.
Why so tiny? Because small is beautiful. And tiny is cute. Plus, being that tiny they can double as a key ring, stitch marker or even an earring.
Can you go even smaller? Well, of course you can! I designed them to be tiny enough to be smaller than usual amis and big enough to be relatively easy to make. You can also try making the animals from these patterns with the thinnest thread and tiniest hook you can find and they’ll be even smaller.
Oh, so Tiny! Giraffe by Justyna Kacprzak
What is Being Made
This pattern creates a miniature amigurumi giraffe measuring just 1.5 inches when sitting. Designed by Justyna Kacprzak, this tiny crocheted toy is perfect for collectors, dollhouse enthusiasts, or as a small gift. The finished giraffe is a complete three-dimensional stuffed animal with distinct body parts including a head, body, four legs, and arms.
Crochet Techniques and Construction Methods
The entire giraffe is worked in continuous rounds, meaning you crochet in a spiral without joining or turning your work. This technique creates seamless, smooth fabric ideal for amigurumi toys. The pattern offers flexibility for crafters of different experience levels: you may use a stitch marker to track your rounds, or simply count stitches as you work. For the arms and legs, the pattern provides an alternative method—if working in both loops feels challenging, you can work in front loops only to simplify construction.
A unique feature of this pattern is its minimal stuffing requirement. Due to the giraffe's tiny size, the designer recommends using the long thread tails left over from sewing body parts together as stuffing material, eliminating waste and reducing the need for additional fiberfill.
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch) – used to create foundation loops and increase stitches
- Single crochet (sc) – the primary stitch forming the fabric of the giraffe
- Increase (inc) – used to expand rounds and shape the body parts
Finishing and Embellishment
Eyes can be added using seed beads for a polished look, or embroidered using French knots if beads are unavailable. This flexibility makes the pattern accessible to crafters with different supply options. Body parts are sewn together using the long yarn tails, which also serve as stuffing.
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The giraffe is worked with 100% acrylic yarn or cotton thread in light fingering or 4-ply weight. Small amounts of three colors are needed: brown, beige, and yellow to create the giraffe's characteristic coloring and markings. A 1.5mm crochet hook is recommended for the specified finished size; a 1.75mm hook can be used if you prefer a slightly larger result. The small hook size is essential for creating the delicate, tiny proportions of this miniature toy.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate, making it suitable for crafters with basic crochet experience who are ready to tackle amigurumi construction, shaping techniques, and assembly work.
