Offset Circles Blanket by Rachele Carmona

What is Being Made

The Offset Circles Blanket is a crochet throw designed as a versatile stash buster project. This blanket features a modern geometric aesthetic created through offset circular motifs arranged in a square format. The design is adaptable to any finished size based on crocheter preference, making it suitable for various applications from small throws to larger bed blankets. The pattern works equally well in bright, vibrant colorways or neutral tones, offering flexibility for different interior design schemes and yarn stash utilization.

Construction Technique

The Offset Circles Blanket employs a modular construction method that builds the blanket square by square. The pattern begins with the creation of the first square, establishing the foundational motif. Subsequent squares are then joined directly to the previous squares during the final round of each new square, using a join-as-you-go technique. This approach eliminates the need for separate assembly after all squares are completed, streamlining the overall project workflow. Once the desired blanket dimensions are achieved through the addition of squares, a simple border is worked around the entire perimeter to frame and finish the piece.

Stitches and Techniques

The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches to construct the offset circle motifs. Chain stitches (Ch) form the foundation of the design, creating the base loops upon which subsequent rows are built. The offset circles are worked in rounds, with each round building upon the previous to create the circular shape. The join-as-you-go joining method is employed during the final round of each square, allowing new squares to be seamlessly integrated into the growing blanket structure without post-project assembly. A simple border finish is applied around the completed blanket perimeter.

Materials and Tools

The Offset Circles Blanket offers complete flexibility regarding yarn selection and hook size. The pattern does not require a specific gauge, making it accessible to crocheters working with various yarn weights and fiber types. The designer's sample was created using Stylecraft DK yarn in the LUCY PACK colorway paired with a size H crochet hook. Crocheters are encouraged to select hook sizes appropriate to their chosen yarn weight based on personal experience and preference. The designer recommends having a smaller hook available for weaving in yarn ends as work progresses, though a yarn needle may be substituted for this finishing task.
