Product Description
This super cute Tiger blanket is very versatile and can be used as a cot blanket, pram blanket, play mat, comforter or toy. I came up with the pattern after desiging a lion cot blanket and wanted to expand the collection. The blanket will keep baby both entertained and cosy, the ripple blanket stitch is soft and warm and the amigurumi head, tail and legs are fun to play with but not to heavy or bulky when it is used as a blanket, it is easy to store as it is designed to be hung over a cot. Pattern details: The pattern is a written over 15pages and includes detailed written pattern notes, pattern graphs, lots of photos, stitch tutorials and links to tutorials and videos that may be helpful. Skill level: intermediate Sizes: Flat blanket: 70cm x 80cm Folded blanket: 40cm x 40cm
Gauge isnt particularly important if you change hooks when instructed but my gauge is 3rows of 10HDC =3x6cm
Noah's Tiger Cot Blanket by Crafty Penguin Crochet
Project Overview
Noah's Tiger Cot Blanket is an intermediate-level crochet pattern designed to create a charming blanket featuring tiger motifs, perfect for a cot or small bed. This downloadable PDF pattern from independent designer Crafty Penguin Crochet combines colorwork and dimensional elements to produce a finished blanket measuring approximately 72cm x 83cm when laid flat, or 43cm x 43cm when folded.
What Is Being Made
This project creates a cot blanket with integrated tiger design elements. The blanket serves as both a functional nursery accessory and a decorative piece, combining a base blanket structure with three-dimensional tiger components that add visual interest and tactile appeal for infants and young children.
Techniques Used
- Colorwork crochet: The pattern employs multiple yarn colors (orange, black, and white) worked into the design, requiring color changes throughout the project
- Dimensional construction: Three-dimensional elements are created and attached to the blanket base, adding depth and texture
- Stuffing and shaping: Certain components are stuffed to create form and dimension
- Embroidery details: Fine embroidery work adds facial features and additional design details to the tiger elements
Stitches Used
- Chain (CH): Foundation stitch used throughout, with specific notation that CH 1/2 at row beginnings do not count as stitches, while CH 3 counts as a stitch in the blanket sections
- Single Crochet (SC): Primary fabric stitch providing structure and density
- Half-Double Crochet (HDC): Used for lighter, more open sections of the design
- Slip Stitch (SLST): Joining stitch for assembling components
- Single Crochet Two Together (SC2TOG): Decrease stitch for shaping
- Half-Double Crochet Two Together (HDC2TOG): Decrease stitch for lighter sections
Materials Required
Yarn: The pattern uses yarn weight 3 (DK weight) in three colors. Approximate yardage requirements are 966 yards (885 meters) in orange, 162 yards (150 meters) in black, and 322 yards (295 meters) in white. The designer used Stylecraft DK yarn in the shades Spice (orange), white, and black.
Tools and Notions: Three crochet hook sizes are required—3.5mm (size E), 4mm (size G), and 6mm (size J)—allowing for varied fabric density across different pattern sections. Additional supplies include a yarn needle (blunt needle) for weaving in ends and seaming, a stitch marker for tracking pattern progress, embroidery scissors for cutting yarn and thread, and polyester stuffing for filling three-dimensional components.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle colorwork, multiple hook sizes, and dimensional construction techniques. The pattern notes that gauge is not particularly critical for this project, reducing pressure on achieving exact tension.
Pattern Notes
The pattern uses color-coded stitch notation, with yarn color indicated before each stitch instruction (for example, "W18sc" indicates 18 single crochet stitches worked in white). This system helps crafters track color changes and maintain pattern clarity throughout the project.
