Product Description

This sweater will be "no sweat" to finish in a hurry! Worked on size US 9 (5.5 mm) it will work up in a hurry, even with the cables and moss stitch. The body is worked in the round from the bottom up, and divided at the armholes. Shape the shoulders using short-rows, then join the shoulders with an exposed 3-Needle Bind-Off.

The sleeves are also worked in the round from the cuff up, working a shallow sleeve cap back and forth with short-rows. The sleeves are joined to the body by picking up stitches around the armhole and joining to the sleeve stiches using 3-Needle Bind-Off on the right side to create an exposed seam at the armholes.

No Sweat Pullover by Therese Chynoweth

What is Being Made

The No Sweat Pullover is a loose-fitting long-sleeve knitted pullover sweater designed by Therese Chynoweth. This intermediate-level knitting project is available in seven sizes ranging from XS to 3XL, with finished bust measurements from 35 inches to 57½ inches and lengths from 24½ inches to 27½ inches. The design is intended to be worn with 4–6 inches of positive ease for comfort and movement.

Knitting Techniques and Construction

This pullover is constructed using circular knitting techniques, which allows for seamless construction and the ability to work in the round. The pattern employs both circular needles and double-pointed needles to accommodate different sections of the garment as the circumference changes. The loose-fitting silhouette and ease measurements indicate that this design prioritizes comfort and wearability, making it an excellent choice for everyday wear.

Stitches and Stitch Work

While specific stitch patterns are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the intermediate skill level suggests the use of fundamental knitting stitches combined with shaping techniques such as increases and decreases to create the pullover's structure. The construction method using circular needles indicates the use of stockinette stitch or similar stitch patterns worked in rounds.

Yarn and Materials

Yarn Weight: Worsted weight (Medium #4) yarn is used for this project, providing a medium-weight fabric suitable for a versatile pullover.

Yarn Specifications: The pattern is shown in Valley Yarns Peru, a premium blend consisting of 84% baby alpaca, 8% merino wool, and 8% nylon. This fiber composition creates a soft, breathable fabric with excellent drape and durability. The yarn yields 120 yards per 1¾ ounce ball.

Yardage Requirements: Total yardage needed ranges from 1181 yards for the smallest size (XS) to 1989 yards for the largest size (3XL), requiring between 10 and 17 balls of yarn depending on the chosen size.

Needles: The pattern requires US 9 [5.5 mm] circular needles in both 16-inch and 32-inch lengths, along with a set of 4 or 5 double-pointed needles of the same size. The multiple needle sizes accommodate the transition from working the body in larger circumference rounds to working the sleeves and neckline in smaller circumference rounds.

Skill Level

This project is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters who have mastered basic knitting techniques and are ready to tackle garment construction with shaping and circular needle work.
