Product Description

The yoke and the body is knitted in the round with the rib pattern. The body is finished with a short double ribbing and stretchy bind off. Sleeves are knitted by moving sleeve sticthes on to main needle and picking up and knitting underarm stitches when you come to them, and knitted partly in rib pattern and ribbing. MyWinter Sweater by VesterbyCrea

What Is Being Made

MyWinter is a top-down knitted sweater designed by VesterbyCrea. This garment features a high neckline and is constructed entirely in the round, making it an assembly-free project. The sweater is available in six sizes ranging from XS to XXL, with mid-back lengths from 56 to 67 cm and back widths from 58 to 73 cm.

Construction Method and Techniques

MyWinter employs a top-down knitting methodology, beginning at the neckline and progressing downward through the yoke, body, and sleeves. This approach offers several advantages: the knitter can try on the garment as it develops and easily adjust the length before binding off.

The neckline is established using an Italian cast on, a technique that creates an exceptionally neat and elastic edge ideal for ribbed sections. From the neckline, the pattern incorporates shoulder increases with rib pattern, allowing the yoke to expand gradually while maintaining textural consistency.

The yoke and body are knitted in the round using a rib pattern throughout, creating vertical lines that provide both visual interest and subtle shaping. Sleeves are knitted by transferring sleeve stitches onto the main needle and picking up and knitting underarm stitches as the knitter reaches them during the body construction. This technique eliminates the need for seaming and assembly, making the finished sweater seamless.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

  • Double ribbing – Used for the neckline, cuffs, and hem to create elastic, fitted edges
  • Rib pattern – Applied throughout the yoke and body for texture and shaping
  • Stockinette stitch – The base stitch structure referenced in the gauge information
  • Stretchy bind off – Applied to all ribbed edges (neckline, cuffs, and hem) to maintain elasticity and prevent tight, restrictive edges

Materials and Tools

MyWinter is knitted using two threads worked together simultaneously: one wool thread and one mohair thread. This two-thread construction creates a luxurious, textured fabric with enhanced warmth and a subtle fuzzy appearance characteristic of mohair blends.

The pattern specifies circular needles in 4 mm size, available in multiple lengths (40, 60, 80, 100 cm) to accommodate different construction stages. The 40 cm needles work for the tight neckline and yoke, while longer needles (60, 80, or 100 cm) are used for the body and sleeves as stitch counts increase.

The yarn weight is classified as thread, indicating a fine gauge that produces a refined, elegant fabric when worked with the two-thread technique.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. Knitters should be comfortable with circular needle techniques, increasing stitches while maintaining pattern continuity, and picking up stitches. The Italian cast on and the coordination of knitting multiple threads simultaneously add complexity beyond beginner-level projects, though the straightforward top-down construction and assembly-free design simplify the overall process.
