Product Description
(Definition: Josy is an abbreviation of ‘jar cosy’!)
This is made using scrap DK weight yarn (and consists of double crochet worked in the round).
This fun decorative cosy will brighten up your workspace and put your leftover yarn to good use. It is easy to personalise to your own creative taste (I like lots of bright stripes).
The multicolour josy fits a large Ragu jar but you can add or minus the number of rows to adjust the height and/or add or minus rounds to the base to adjust the width.
For an alternate josy pattern see the Black and white josy pattern on Lovecrochet, Ravelry or Kayleigh's Creative World

What is Being Made
The Multicoloured Josy is a decorative crochet jar cover designed to fit a large jar with a 7cm base diameter. This beginner-friendly project creates a colorful accessory perfect for adding a handmade touch to kitchen storage or home décor. The finished piece is worked in the round using multiple yarn colors to create a vibrant, multicolored effect.
Craft and Technique Overview
This is a crochet project suitable for beginners. The pattern uses fundamental crochet techniques worked in continuous rounds, making it an ideal project for those new to crochet or looking to practice basic stitch work. The design involves working in the round from the base upward, with color changes incorporated throughout to achieve the multicolored appearance.
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch) – Used to create the foundation of the project
- Double Crochet (dc) / Single Crochet (sc) – The primary stitch used throughout the pattern; note that UK and US terminology differ, with UK double crochet equivalent to US single crochet
- Double Crochet 2 Together (dc2tog) / Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog) – Used for decreasing stitches as needed
- Slip Stitch (sl st) – Used to join rounds and secure stitches
Materials Required
The Multicoloured Josy uses DK weight yarn in six coordinating colors, with 25g of each color needed:
- Yarn A – Green
- Yarn B – Yellow
- Yarn C – Dark Blue
- Yarn D – Purple
- Yarn E – Light Blue
- Yarn F – Pink
Additional materials include a 3.5mm crochet hook, a darning needle for weaving in ends, and scissors for cutting yarn. A stitch marker is recommended to track the beginning of each round when working continuously.
Pattern Notes
The pattern is written in both UK and US crochet terminology, with US terms provided in parentheses throughout. This is particularly important as UK and US terminology differs significantly for certain stitches. The pattern is worked continuously in the round rather than joining with slip stitches at the end of each round, except where specifically stated in the instructions. A stitch marker should be placed in the first stitch of every round to help track your progress.
