Product Description
I absolutely love designing shawls recently as I love gifting them to the people I truly care about. This shawl is named after my husband's aunt and she chose these beautiful autumn colored whirl too.
This beautiful pattern is only using a few different stitches (double crochet, front and back post double crochet stitches) to create a beautifully textured look.
Difficulty: Beginner

I also made a stitch count chart for each row to keep your work tracked easily. You can find it in a different PDF file.
I hope you’ll love it as much as I loved creating it!
Happy crocheting!

Márta Shawl by K.A.M.E. Crochet
What is Being Made
The Márta Shawl is a crocheted triangular wrap designed by Krisztina Anna Matejcsok-Edomer of K.A.M.E. Crochet. This finished shawl measures 29.5 inches long by 62 inches wide (75 centimeters long by 158 centimeters wide), making it an ideal accessory for layering and draping. The shawl is suitable for crocheters of all skill levels, classified as a beginner-friendly project despite its elegant finished appearance.
Crochet Techniques Used
The Márta Shawl employs fundamental crochet construction methods that make it accessible to beginners. The pattern begins with a magic ring, a technique that creates a closed center point from which the shawl expands outward. The design progresses through systematic increases and stitch placement to achieve the triangular shape. Blocking is recommended upon completion to fully showcase the stitch pattern and ensure the shawl drapes beautifully.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes a selection of essential crochet stitches that form the foundation of most crochet projects:
- Magic Ring (MR) – the starting technique for creating the shawl's center
- Chain (CH) – used for foundation and spacing throughout the pattern
- Single Crochet (SC) – a fundamental short stitch for structure and definition
- Double Crochet (DC) – a taller stitch that creates drape and openwork
- Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) – a textured stitch that adds dimensional detail by working around the post of previous stitches
- Skip (SK) – used to create pattern spacing and shaping
Materials and Tools Required
The Márta Shawl is worked in fingering weight yarn, a delicate 4-ply yarn weight that creates an elegant, lightweight fabric ideal for shawls. The pattern calls for approximately 1093 yards (1000 meters) of fingering weight yarn. Scheepjes Whirl is the recommended yarn, though any comparable fingering weight yarn of similar yardage will work. Construction requires a 3.5 millimeter (size E) crochet hook. Additional tools include a yarn needle for weaving in ends, scissors, and optional stitch markers to help track pattern repeats and shaping points throughout the project.
